Property of the Month: 🏜️ Wilderness Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp

If you're looking for one of Namibia's most extraordinary wilderness experiences – where desert-adapted wildlife roams through vast, otherworldly landscapes and scattered shipwrecks cling to the legendary Skeleton Coast - Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp deserves a place on your radar.

Set deep within the remote Hoanib Valley, this exceptional fly-in camp sits in one of Africa's last true wilderness areas. Rugged mountains, dry riverbeds and endless desert plains create a landscape that feels almost untouched by time.

Accommodation is limited to just eight spacious tented suites, hosting a maximum of 18 guests. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame sweeping views across the valley, while shaded private decks offer the perfect spot to watch the changing desert light. The family suite, with two interconnected en-suite tents, is ideal for those travelling with older children.

The wildlife here is unlike anywhere else in Africa. Desert-adapted elephants move through the river valleys, alongside giraffe, oryx, springbok and Hartmann's mountain zebra. Guests may also encounter desert lions or elusive brown hyenas. Birdlife is equally impressive, with raptors soaring above the dramatic landscapes.

A stay of three nights or more includes an unforgettable excursion to Namibia's wild Atlantic shoreline, where shipwrecks, towering dunes and vast seal colonies create one of Africa's most hauntingly beautiful coastal scenes.

📍 Hoanib Valley, Kaokoland, Namibia

🌤️ Open year-round | April–August for cooler, dry conditions and excellent wildlife viewing | November–March for warmer temperatures and dramatic desert scenery

We're delighted to share that Safari Consultants Director Michele Seamark has been featured in the latest edition of Travel Africa Magazine.

Exploring the theme of where leading Africa tour operators travel to find their solitude and calm, Michele shares her love of fishing in Africa's wild places - from the waterways of the Okavango Delta to the incredible Zambezi River.

For Michele, it's never really been about the catch (or so she says!). It's about the stillness. The chance to switch off the engine, drift quietly on the water, and become fully immersed in the sights, sounds, and wildlife around you.

"Whatever wildlife it delivers, for me, it's the ultimate escape."

Thank you to for including Michele among the industry voices reflecting on the places that help us reconnect with nature and ourselves.

What if we told you there’s an African island where you won’t see another safari vehicle… only forest and water as far as you can see? 🌿

With 35 years of experience travelling across Africa, Safari Consultants Managing Director Rob has stayed in some truly exceptional places, but few have stayed with him quite like Rubondo Island Camp.

As Rob puts it:
“It feels like stepping into a forgotten world…completely wild, deeply atmospheric and unlike anywhere else I’ve experienced in East Africa.”

Africa’s largest island national park, Rubondo Island offers a rare sense of true exclusivity. No crowds, no traffic, no rush… just endless equatorial forest, the shores of Lake Victoria, and wilderness in every direction.

Days unfold slowly here: tracking chimpanzees through dense forest, spotting rare sitatunga and bush pigs in the open glades, or spotted-necked otters along the shoreline. You only need to relax in camp to enjoy world-class birding, whilst boat trips can take you to quiet, hidden coves. 🐒🛶🦜

With just a handful of handcrafted cottages tucked beneath ancient fig trees, genuinely warm staff and an atmosphere that invites you to slow down completely, Rubondo is the kind of place that redefines what “getting away from it all” really means. 🌅

📍 Rubondo Island National Park, Tanzania

🌤️ Best time to go: June to October for dry-season wildlife viewing | December to March for exceptional birding and migratory species | April to May closed season (camp closure)

Wait to hear the call...🔊

With its striking turquoise-blue wings and vivid red bill, the Woodland Kingfisher is one of Africa’s most recognisable seasonal visitors. Its unmistakable trilling call is often one of the first sounds of summer in the bush, heard long before those brilliant flashes of blue are spotted among the trees.

This kingfisher is rarely found near water, instead hunting insects and small prey from quiet woodland perches.

As southern Africa moves into the cooler months, these remarkable birds begin their migration north towards equatorial Africa, travelling thousands of kilometres in search of warmer weather. A small bird with an extraordinary journey ahead.
