the Cauldon which offers lift bridges, tunnels, a river, steam engines and the churnet valley. 10 days the Cheshire Ring Manchester and the Anderton Boat lift. 2 weeks the Llangollen, Wales and the famous Aquaduct, naming but a few, each offering slightly different aspects of boating. Not forgetting those 3 or 4 day shortbreaks to re charge the batteries, traveling south to Great Haywood and Shugborough Hall or North and the Potteries. 🛠️🚤 Another important pre-season job completed at Canal Cruising Company! 🌿💧

Before the season gets fully underway, all hire boats must continue to meet the current standards required for their BSS (Boat Safety Scheme) certificates — inspections that must be carried out by a certified examiner every 4 years.

This year’s checks included updates to things such as downflood requirements. Any openings on the hull now need to sit above 250mm from the canal water line, so on this boat the bilge pump outlet needed extending, and the elbow fitting was turned upside down to ensure the pipe loop now sits safely above the required level. ⚙️

Other maintenance and safety updates included:

✨ Replacing sun-faded safe crew area stickers
⛽ Installing a new shiny fuel cap clearly marked “DIESEL”
🔧 Fitting a brand new gas regulator barrier to replace the old damaged one

Lots of behind-the-scenes work goes into keeping the fleet safe, compliant, and ready for your canal adventures 💙🌿
