The Reality of Grassroots Football: Ground #251 🏟️
It’s not all Premier League glitz and glamour. This week, my groundhopping journey took me to Grosvenor Park, home of Lane Head FC.
To be honest, it’s heartbreaking to see a ground in this state. From the derelict main stand to the crumbling perimeter, it’s easily the most "rugged" ground I’ve visited this season.
A Bit of History 📖
Lane Head FC reformed in 2004 following a stint as Blakenall FC (in partnership with Bloxwich United). They’ve only had a senior side since 2018, and while the volunteers work tirelessly, the lack of support for clubs at this level of the pyramid is clear to see.
The Matchday Experience ⚽️
Entry: Only £4.00 🎟️
Food: A nice basic bar with snacks and a small range of pies 🥧
Atmosphere: Real, raw, and community-driven.
Despite the conditions, you have to admire the spirit of the volunteers who keep these clubs alive. That said, the pyramid needs to do more to support these grassroots gems before they’re gone for good.
