📸 Avoid Passport Delays – Make Sure Your Passport Photo Meets HM Passport Office Rules! 📸

Did you know that one of the most common reasons for passport application delays is an incorrect photograph? Before you apply, take a few minutes to check that your photo meets the official HM Passport Office requirements.

✅ Your photo must:
• Be taken within the last month
• Be clear, in focus and in colour
• Show your full head and upper shoulders
• Have a plain cream or light grey background
• Show you facing forward and looking directly at the camera
• Have a neutral expression with your mouth closed
• Have your eyes open and visible
• Be free from shadows, glare and red-eye
• Not be edited or altered using software

🚫 Common reasons photos are rejected:
• Hair covering your eyes
• Smiling, pouting or pulling faces
• Wearing sunglasses or tinted glasses
• Shadows on your face or background
• Head coverings that are not for religious or medical reasons
• Photos that are blurry, too dark or too light

👶 For children and babies:
• Children must be photographed on their own
• Babies must not be holding toys or using dummies
• Children under 6 don’t need to look directly at the camera or have a neutral expression
• Babies under 1 don’t need to have their eyes open

💡 HM Passport Office advises that photos taken in a photo booth or professional shop are more likely to be approved than photos taken at home.
