Over two separate dates in November, Maple staff volunteered their time to help at Stockport Foodbank, lending a hand sorting donations and supporting the brilliant team who keep the service running!

Everyone really enjoyed the opportunity to get involved and came away with a deeper appreciation of the vital role the foodbank plays in supporting individuals and families across our community in Stockport.

A big thank you to Stockport Foodbank for welcoming us and keeping everyone going with plenty of brews throughout the day!! A huge well done to our Maple volunteers who showed such energy and enthusiasm and volunteered a total of 49 hours!

In recent months the BBC has investigated a worrying trend: Organised crime groups are acquiring legitimate haulage businesses, often on the verge of insolvency, so they can operate as subcontractors, taking over operator licences and embedding themselves inside the supply chain, stealing full trailer-loads of goods in a single hit!

❗ Entire lorryloads are diverted and “vanish” without trace until the customer reports a non-delivery.
❗ Criminally controlled firms bid for contracts with legitimate operators.
❗ Drivers recruited under false pretences.
❗ Documentation manipulated to mask theft.

For legitimate operators, the risk is immediate: Financial losses, reputational damage, contract disruption and higher insurance exposure can put hauliers out of business!

Deputy Chief Constable Jayne Meir, the National Police Chief's Council first lead for freight crime, said a new team at Opal SOAC will be working with the industry to target the issue.

🌟 Huge Congratulations to our Maple Team! 🌟

On Friday night, several members of our incredible staff braved the cold and heavy wind and rain of storm Claudia, as they took part in Sleepout at the Cathedral, in solidarity with those experiencing homelessness in Greater Manchester.

It’s great to see Destiny Horoszczak, Joanna Amos and Wiktoria Wojciechowska so willing to step outside of their comfort zones to help others, all as part of our staff volunteer programme. They have raised an amazing £500 in support of the Booth Centre, the Manchester charity supporting all those who have been impacted by homelessness, helping them rebuild their lives and celebrating their successes.

This year sees the 30th anniversary of the Booth Centre, a thriving community run in partnership with the people who attend and promoting many creative projects, sports, training and help to gain employment.
