The Old Signal Box at Stamford The story of the ongoing restoration project for this Midland Railway Signal Box dated 1893

This is a Type 2B Signal Box built in 1893 in Midland Railway`s Derby factory. In 1987 the box was decommissioned and sold into private ownership and moved to its current position adjacent to Stamford Railway Station. Unfortunately the last few years have seen a decline in the building`s condition however it is now hoped that the external appearance can be restored to the original condition so tha

t Stamford residents and visitors alike can be proud of the town`s less well known Victorian Industrial heritage.

It was a pleasure to meet Nigel Moon yesterday. Nigel the owner restored the 200+ year old windmill at Wissendine in Rutland back in the 90s. You can climb right to the top and see all the different workings on each floor. Nigel explained how mills all over the country are under threat and it seems to me that as a working mill producing high quality flour Nigel deserves all the support he can get. Well worth a visit.

Lovely Douglas Fir timber (we think) revealed after much sanding. Every panel in this section is in very good condition and looks great after a little oil application. We do have an issue with the initial removal of the lead paint as even with full masks the fumes are potent when using a heat gun. Any alternative suggestions gratefully received
