Today, it was a pleasure to welcome Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce to Southwick Reef for their Net Zero Champions event, led by our Director of Engineering & Environment.

The day started with a visit to the reef itself, giving attendees the chance to see the installation up close, ask questions and learn more about how it's helping to support marine biodiversity along Shoreham Harbour's East Arm. The structure is made up of habitat panels, intertidal cubes and small vertical pools, all designed to support marine biodiversity.

After the reef visit, everyone had the opportunity to learn more about the project, including its aims and ambitions, social engagement, the journey so far, and the research behind it.

A big thank you to everyone who attended for their enthusiasm and insightful questions, as well as everyone involved in making the event possible.

Today, our team at Shoreham Port are proud to be flying the Red Ensign in support of our merchant seafarers, and to honour and remember the often-forgotten Merchant Navy community.

95% of the UK’s trade is transported by sea, highlighting the vital role of the maritime sector and the people who keep it moving.

We would like to say thank you to past, present and future Merchant Navy seafarers who have served, and continue to serve, our island nation.

We are excited to share that all SailLink tickets for the Normandy to Sussex crossing have sold out!

It has been fantastic to see so much interest in this pilot crossing between Fécamp and Shoreham Port. Operated by SailLink, aboard Mer Agitée, helmed by Michel Desjoyeaux, double Vendée Globe winner.

The trips will take place between 8 and 13 September, following a historic route once sailed by King Charles II. Passengers will enjoy an unforgettable journey between two ports rich in history and heritage.

To mark the occasion, our Port Kitchen café will open one hour before each departure, giving visitors the opportunity to come along and see the vessel set off for themselves.

Opening times:

• Tuesday, 8 September 2026 – 7:00am
• Thursday, 10 September 2026 – 7:30am
• Sunday, 13 September 2026 – 8:30am

We are looking forward to welcoming passengers and visitors as this exciting event gets underway at the beginning of next month.

We have been deeply saddened by the tragic events that unfolded yesterday afternoon. Our condolences are with the family and friends of the three people who have lost their lives, and our thoughts are with the young girl being treated in hospital.

We would like to pay tribute to the emergency services and all those involved in the response to this tragic incident. We are continuing to support the ongoing investigation in whatever way we can.

We are working with multiple agencies regarding this incident and would urge the public to avoid the area.

Emergency services are currently responding to reports of four people in difficulty in the water close to Shoreham Fort.

A section of the A259 in Shoreham has been closed as the incident remains ongoing, and we’re urging the public to stay clear of the area in the meantime.

We will provide more information as soon as we are able to.

Dry dock maintenance completed for Prevailer ⚓

On Saturday, Prevailer, a windfarm CTV (Crew Transfer Vessel), underwent a scheduled dry dock maintenance programme, with the docking taking around 12 hours from start to finish.

The vessel's hull was thoroughly jet washed, while the team carried out a detailed inspection of the starboard jet drive to help ensure continued safe and efficient operations.

On Saturday 15 August, Anthony, along with several others, completed a sponsored walk for the Friends of Shoreham Fort, travelling from Newhaven Fort to Shoreham Fort, a distance of around 18 miles.

Last post from me today for what has been such a brilliant achievement for Antony. He has wanted to do a sponsored walk for the charity for such a long time and now he can say he’s done it.

Huge shout outs also to Steve L, Frankie from Newhaven Fort and Gary for walking with Antony and keeping the momentum going… you guys are amazing!

Thanks go to Alan M in the support car, who not only collected our three from Shoreham Fort at 5am and took them to Newhaven for their 6am start, he also stayed close by the whole journey to ensure the guys were safe and also hydrated.

Thanks to Dave C who cycled from Portslade to near Peacehaven and photographed the guys along the way. Then cycled to Shoreham Fort for a cuppa :)

We were delighted to welcome IgnitEd Education to Shoreham Port earlier this week for an engineering-focused visit as part of their future-focused work experience week.

The group of 29 students, aged 14-17, enjoyed a presentation from our Engineering and Environment Director, who shared insights into the Port's history and current operations, the evolution of engineering, our net-zero ambitions, and advice based on his own career journey into civil engineering.

After the students took part in a Port tour, learning more about our dry dock, lock gates, pump house and the coastal protection work taking place along the beach.

It was a pleasure to host such an engaged group, who asked thoughtful questions throughout the session and showed great interest in the wide range of career opportunities available in the port sector.
