3 months work in a few minutes!
The burnt out boat was stripped down to bare steel, and then slowly put back together with new panels and roofing, all insulated. The insulated fibreglass wall panels were installed, the insulated roof sections fitted on top, and then we could do the interior details. The engine was removed, serviced, painted, and refitted. The back engine compartment covers were replaced with fibreglass covers, and the guttering that catches the water from the covers was remade in fibreglass.
Then we put in recycled scaffold flooring, a railway sleeper and scaffold staircase, insulation over the hull steel, and closed it in 12mm plywood.
We cut out most of the window apertures and fitted some recycled windows, cleaned and painted.
The front of the boat has now got a folding door with glass planes, so the whole boat is closed up except for the remaining windows that must still be fitted.
That will come later once we are back. We'll be doing a contract away, and then return to finish up.
We have started, but not finished, fitting heat resistant piping into the walls for the diesel heater to blow hot air out of vents in the walls, and some plug boxes for the electrics that will be done later. The kitchen and bathroom will get gas heated water, as well as a reverse osmosis water purification system to utilize water from the river or canal, stored in a water tank and made when needed.
We're excited for the break, and at the same time excited to come back and finish!

There are a few small things to complete before we go away for a short while to fulfill a contract. The boat superstructure has its first coat of color at last, and so it's looking a bit nicer. The top deck on the roof is now coated with top-coat to seal the sand non-slip in, which also helps keep it easier to clean in future.

The swan windows are cut and the edges are fibreglassed. I now need to make up the window frames and the windows for them. We are still deciding whether to put windows in the front next to the door or to just close it up and only have a door. That will be done in the next few days as a matter of urgency before we leave.

The end of another week!
The deck on top of the roof has finally got it's non slip finish. Only one more thing to do on the roof now for it to be complete, and that is to get a coat of topcoat in gray.
Juanita has cut some more windows out, and painted some walls inside. She really wants to see the outside walls painted!
I've started the process of closing in the front of the boat where the second door will be. It's a requirement to have 2 escape points, in case of an accident of some sort on the boat while people are on board.
The next week will be our last week that we can work on the boat for the next 11 weeks or so, so I won't be posting for that time. We need a break, it's been a very, very hard slog, trying to do so much in such a short space of time! See you next week!

The second last week of working on the boat until we head off to Cornwall for an 11 week contract there. We are hoping to get the boat at least closed up and lockable for while we are away. We've put in the ceiling boards and two wall panels on the interior, (and painted them, but the camera battery died) as well as painting a strip of topcoat around the roof for when we need to tape it off with masking tape to put the non-slip sand finish on. That will have to be next week, weather permitting.
We took a break and went to the beach today for a chilly swim, and then came back for a short while, so today's progress is a little bit slow. But it was worth it!

The roof has had all the fibreglass work it will be getting, except for the non-slip finish and final gray topcoat. That will be done in the next few days, when I've managed to find "sharp sand".
There are now 3 windows on one side (no video of the last 2 windows actually fitted yet, the battery died on the camera!)
We have also started to fit the PVC ceiling and the timber beams, also without video yet.

We finally built stairs instead of having the ladder, which was tricky to use when your hands were full. As usual with projects, we made some real-time adjustments to the stairs as we were going along. Not only changing the curve of the risers (for a slight curved staircase look) into a straight line, but also making three steps instead of four, as well as turning the railway sleeper risers around to tuck them away under each step so that there is nothing to kick in the dark...

Here's a video of the way we cut out and fibreglassed the windows so that they cannot leak into the boat (if there's a leak in the sealant), as well as the first section of floor covered with the clear coat epoxy, and a very quick trip around the island that lies next to us (on the video it's to your left the whole time, traveling around it in an anticlockwise direction).
It's basically just a big piece of flat grassland. In time-lapse you cannot see the seals and birds in the video, it's just too fast. But it was a lovely sunny day, and breezy enough for a quick sail at around 4 knots the whole way.

We have cut the first two windows in! The wind and rain have been very "user un-friendly", so we dodged between the weather to cut the windows out and do all the fiddly bits before we could fit the window in. We will do one or two as we can. It will not all go quickly, unfortunately. But progress is progress.

Several details done today:
1) Preparing the extruded profile with the wire-cup grinder to be ready for lamination, (2) laminating it, and then (3) two coats of top coat grey. One side is now done.
Then on the interior (4) we gave the door a coat of paint and (5) put some turquoise colored epoxy highlights into the wooden floor boards. That is a slow process, as there are leaking spots in several places, where the epoxy keeps leaking it the bottom, and we have to fill them up until they stop leaking before we can sand the floor down a final time and coat it with clear epoxy.
