This week I had the pleasure of travelling to Southampton for a work trip. It was a looooong day with 9 hours on a train but so worth it. Not only a very productive meeting with a lovely team but also I got to visit this incredible venue.

The eldest explorer is celebrating 43 years on this earth 🌎 today.

He wanted a quiet birthday πŸŽ‚ (this did not compute to begin with as I celebrate multiple times 🀣🀣)

A lovely pub lunch at the Old Beverlie in Canterbury, a daytime nap, cake and movie 🍿πŸŽ₯

We both had the day off work and it was lovely actually just to slow everything down.

Happy Birthday Mike πŸŽ‰πŸ€©πŸ’–πŸŽˆ 43 years young! Although out bodies don't always feel it!

So proud of Mr 11 this week, we took him driving for his 4th lesson and he smashed it! Next time, 3 point turns!

Half term is always full on fun but also a juggle as we both work full time ❀️ With help this week the littlest explorer has been driving, shopping, chilling, going to see Wonka at the flicks, eating pizza, crazy golfing, off to a virtual reality session, martial arts and swimming. Lucky boy. It's been a tag team effort but brilliant πŸ’–

What do you do when you are over 40 on a date weekend?

You go to the True Crime Museum obviously! Mike did wonder why I was walking round with a notebook and pen 🀣

This place was actually set in actual caves near Hastings pier which I thought was really cool. The history was really fascinating if a little gruesome from the well known Ripper to some newer crimes. We loved the interactive elements such as doing our fingerprint cards!

We were in here a good hour and a half and certainly was a talking point!

Our Airbnb in Hastings was right by the sea β›΅

From our window at the very top of a quirky old building in the old town, we could see the pier and the sea. Laid in bed we could hear the wind and the waves. Everything was fresh and clean, we even got an early check in. We snuggled early with TV and snacks, perfect. We definitely would stay again 😊

Part of the charm of Hastings for us is their old town. We have skirted through it before but this weekend we allowed ourselves to say 'that looks cool, let's go down there'.

So many cool little pathways, a patchwork of houses and alleys. We loved it. And after going through a gap following a narrow path and going underneath a house we ended up looking down on the old town and the sea! We felt quite the adventurers!!!

More photos from our glorious little February mini break to Hastings.

24 hours with no agenda, no where to be, just whatever we wanted. Yes alright we were in our lovely Airbnb by 8pm but we packed a lot in during the day πŸ˜„

We had a mini mini break ❀️ 24 hours for just the 2 of us. Mike chose Hastings. We haven't been to Hastings for 10 years and it was delightful to return!

After a really easy train ride we went straight to the seafront to try our luck getting into Maggie's which had excellent reviews. This was a long shot as a lot of people say you have to pre book but we were so lucky to walk in at the exact right time and the friendly waitress made space for us on a cosy table for 2 WITH a stunning sea view!

Not a day for dieting, Maggie's lived up to the reviews!!! Best fish and chips ever! And an equal star for me was the salad ( yes I know salad, booooorrrrring!) But actually the salad was fabulous and fresh and exciting which was needed with the richness of the dish. And don't expect little portions, wow!

Definitely worth a pop in if you are heading to the South Coast although as it is so popular try and pre book to avoid being disappointed x

While the youngest explorer was at the theatre we had a potter around Canterbury which was a lovely treat.

It wasn't as cold as we had expected so it was really pleasant to take a slow wonder round with no particular agenda or time limit. Just to hang out and be in each others company.

We looked at art, chatted and ate a lot πŸ˜‚

The littlest explorer had the best time at the theatre this week seeing Edward Scissorhands at The Marlowe with friends. Mike and I didn't know what to do with ourselves so we had an unexpected date night while Jack was at the show! Oh how times are changing!

We had such an amazing time finding out where Granny had gone at Escape Kent!

Our youngest explorer had the best time at his first escape room and our host Ollie was fabulous!

This was such a wonderful activity to do, especially on a dreary January day, we saw all sorts of groups going into different rooms and we can't wait to try our next one!
