Not ones to rest for long, even on a beach holiday in Skiathos, we got up early to complete a 10km hike with an impromptu swim then ice cream for breakfast 😎

The final day of The Lakeland Way: 20km from Boot to Ravenglass. A visit to the astonishing Stanley Force waterfall - set in a gorge with 150ft sheer drop sides - then on to Devoke Water before beginning our descent into Ravenglass, where we had to wade across the Esk River - we timed our whole trip to coincide with low-tide at the time we’d get here on the last day. Then rounded off our trip with a visit to the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway 🚂

Day 11 of The Lakeland Way: Seathwaite to Boot. Nice to get a bit of cloud and a cool breeze for today’s walk over Hard Knott. We spent a short while watching cars struggling to cope with the steep pass then passed through the Roman Fort before heading down the Esk Valley to Boot.

Lakeland Way Day 10: Coniston to Seathwaite. Once again the heat took its toll as we climbed out of Coniston with not a cloud or light breeze to be found anywhere 🥵 only further up the Walna Scar Road did it cool down. But still warm enough for Rachel to take her 4th wild swim of the trip! Tonight we’re staying in a room above the only pub in the village. Breakfast may be later than usual 😋

Day 9 of The Lakeland Way: 18km from Grasmere to Coniston. The rain held off yet again for our walk of caves and quarries. Cathedral Cave never fails to impress but there were a few other smaller cut-throughs and remnants of past quarrying up on the fells that are also well worth a look. Stoping for lunch just off the Tibberthwaite Road, next to an almost completely dry Yewdale Beck just shows how little rain there has been recently.

Day 8 of The Lakeland Way, a nice and easy 12km from Troutbeck to Grasmere, passing through Ambleside along the way. The path also goes right through Rydal Hall and past several tearooms 😋

Day 7 of The Lakeland Way: Patterdale to Troutbeck. It was good to have a flatish start to get to Hartsop before starting the climb up to The Knott. Very breezy with a chilly wind along the way. Then on to High Street at 829m. At this point Mountain Fever took over and we went a little off-piste to bag another FOUR Wainwrights (6 in total for the day) with a total ascent of 1,102m and 22km before descending steadily into Troutbeck.

Day 6 of The Lakeland Way: Dockray to Patterdale. Starting in Dockray means you get to walk DOWN to Aira Force, passing all the day-trippers slogging up to see the waterfall. We detoured to take a swim in Ullswater before ending the day at Crookabeck Bed & Breakfast and scoffing the best platters we’ve ever had 😋

Day 5 on The Lakeland Way - another hot one! Burnthwaite to Dockray. Through Keswick - with a mandatory visit to a coffee shop - we skirted around The Keswick Mountain Festival before making our way up to St. John’s in the Vale and joining The Old Coach Road into Dockray. Currently chilling with a glass or two at The Royal Hotel, Dockray.

Day 4 of The Lakeland Way: from Buttermere to Braithwaite. Started with a leisurely stroll around Crummock Water before heading up to Coledale Hause alongside Liza Beck. We chose the more rocky route, which was a bit of a scramble in places. The rest of the climb was also hard-going, partly down to the rocky path and partly due to the heat! We had lunch up top before heading down into Braithwaite.

The Lakeland Way Day3: We headed through Rosthwaite and up to Castle Crag then East over Honister Pass, stopping for lunch at the slate mine. We deviated from the route slightly to pass Warnscale Head Bothy - just to snap the iconic shot of Buttermere through the window. Descending along Warnscale Beck we obviously had to take a dip in the Emerald pools before heading towards Buttermere and tonight’s B&B.
