📖 A new chapter for our UK team

We’re delighted to welcome Gavin Rimmer to Eco-Counter as Head of New Business Development, through our UK arm, Traffic Technology Ltd.

Gavin spent nine years at Cyclehoop, helping put thousands of Bikehangars on UK streets. That experience taught him something we see every day: building active travel infrastructure is only half the job. The other half is proving it works.
Councils need solid Ground truth data to make the case for funding, to show what its delivering, and to plan what comes next.

That's exactly what we do, we provide “Funding insurance insight” which supports every stage of the Funding circle.

Our automatic counters, combined with our analysis software, show how many people walk and cycle, when and where, turning everyday journeys into evidence at every stage of a scheme, from the funding bid to the post-delivery review.
For over 25 years, we’ve supported more than 5,000 localities across 55 countries, in towns, cities and natural spaces alike.

European Mobility Week 2026: A 4% increase in bicycle ridership! 🚲

Our team of data experts carried out a special and unique analysis during European Mobility Week. This analysis shows a 3.6 per cent increase (nearly 4 per cent) in cycling compared with the average for the previous two weeks. Nine of the sixteen countries analysed recorded an increase, with Italy leading the way (+15.1 per cent), followed by Belgium (+8.2 per cent), Portugal (+7.2 per cent) and Sweden (+7.0 per cent). 🚲📈

A judge just blocked a bike lane removal in Washington, DC. The reason? Data.

In March 2026, the FHWA planned to rip out part of the 15th Street protected bike lane to ease traffic for tourist season.

The Washington Area Bicyclist Association pushed back — with numbers, not opinions:
🚴 91% reduction in bicycle injury crashes
🚗 46% fewer roadway crashes on the corridor
⏱️ Travel times improved by up to 40 seconds
📊 Nearly 4,000 daily bike users

A federal judge agreed: the government hadn't "sufficiently considered available safety and traffic data" before deciding to remove it.

The lane stayed.

For every Vision Zero city, the lesson is the same: the infrastructure you can't measure is the infrastructure you can't defend.

That's not a guess — it's a number tracked, displayed, and shared publicly, every single day, on Oxford Road, Manchester.

Back in 2014, this corridor was a battleground: 100+ buses an hour, heavy foot traffic, and a strategic cycling link — all fighting for the same few metres of street space.
Manchester didn't just redesign the road. They measured what happened next.
