Cox Powertrain Ltd. The Cox Marine V8 - the only 300 and 350 horsepower diesel outboards designed from a blank sheet of paper, purposely for marine use

15/10/2026

Here Sungho Hong shares how a visit to our Shoreham-by-Sea facility highlighted one of the operational improvements with Cox Marine outboard engines.

Previously, engines operating in demanding seawater environments in South Korea required regular repainting to combat corrosion. Seeing the dedicated paint booth at our facility helped demonstrate just how much that challenge has been reduced, with corrosion-related maintenance now minimised.

Sungho also reflects on his experience of working with Cox Marine, praising the team's responsiveness, technical support and commitment to helping customers succeed.

With confidence growing in the region, Sungho suggests demand for the Cox Marine V8 300hp is set to "skyrocket" as more operators recognise the benefits of a diesel outboard designed for tough marine environments.

In defence and maritime security operations, fuel supply is rarely the headline topic, but it can have a major impact on operational readiness. However, defence organisations are prioritising single-fuel logistics to reduce supply chain challenges, improve interoperability and strengthen mission resilience.

By standardising around fuels such as F-76, operators can simplify refuelling, reduce storage requirements and support a wider range of assets from a common fuel infrastructure. When smaller patrol vessels and support craft can utilise the same fuel as larger naval platforms, the benefits extend across safety, efficiency and operational flexibility.

Hugh Huddleston explores this topic in his latest article. You can read it here: https://coxmarine.com/news/blog-why-single-fuel-logistics-matters-for-modern-defence/

Hardware alone isn’t enough. As Stephen Pitt explains in his latest article on USV outboard integration.

Cox Marine’s diesel outboard platform was engineered from the outset to support autonomous applications. But hardware alone isn’t enough. True USV outboard integration requires an open approach, one that aligns with the modular and interoperable design philosophies of modern defence and autonomy programmes.
Our open CAN network architecture enables the engine to interface cleanly with a wide range of systems, including:

▪️advanced autonomy and navigation stacks
▪️vessel control systems
▪️power management and monitoring suites
▪️mission-specific payloads

This openness gives integrators the freedom and transparency they need to tailor the system to the vessel’s purpose. It reduces friction, accelerates development timelines, and ensures the propulsion becomes a reliable part of the wider operational picture.

When lives, public safety and mission success are on the line, vessel operators need propulsion they can rely on.

That's why organisations across defence, law enforcement and emergency response sectors are turning to diesel outboard technology that delivers the durability, efficiency and operational readiness demanded in high-pressure environments.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is among those leveraging the benefits of the Cox Marine V8 diesel outboard, supporting marine operations with a propulsion solution designed for performance, endurance and reliability when it matters most.

For operators of commercial boats and RHIBs, reducing running costs and improving reliability is an ongoing priority. As a result, the shift from petrol to diesel propulsion is becoming a key driver of change. While this transition is often associated with new builds, repowering existing vessels is proving an equally effective route. By replacing ageing petrol engines with modern diesel outboards, operators can extend vessel life, improve efficiency and simplify fuel logistics, without the cost and downtime of full replacement.

Did you know that Cox Marine's high-performance diesel outboard engines are manufactured in Shoreham-by-Sea, a small town on England's south coast?

From this Sussex production facility, engines are built and shipped to customers around the world through an extensive global distributor network, supporting commercial, defence and recreational marine applications across multiple continents.

It's a great example of British engineering and manufacturing expertise making a global impact, proving that world-class innovation doesn't always come from major industrial hubs.

Cox Marine has received market feedback from South Korea indicating that its diesel outboard technology is delivering even greater fuel efficiency benefits than expected in the country's expanding seaweed harvesting industry, with operators reporting fuel savings of up to 50% compared with gasoline alternatives.

Hugh Hudleston comments:

"We typically cite fuel savings of around 30% compared with equivalent gasoline outboards. It's encouraging to see feedback from South Korea suggesting even greater gains in demanding commercial applications where vessels are heavily loaded and fuel costs are a key consideration."
