One Out One In - as TTO E3868 has left us for service today, TSO E4641 has replaced it. This is in for a repaint, precipitated by the serious failure of the paint on the landward side as shown below. This will require stripping back to bare metal and the layers of paint building back up from nothing. The seaward side is considerably better and just needs flatting off before repainting. 14-10-2026

Thompson coach update. The exterior of BG E70621E is being prepared for a second coat of crimson. Internally it is virtually finished with the floor painted today. On Thompson BTO E1866E the new door skins are being fettled onto the door frames. 14-10-2026

Boiler shop progress - firstly, Ring Haw’s new firebox tube plate is being fettled. Here the jig is being modified to hold the plate whilst it is shaped to match the existing firebox sides. Second is the B12 where a start has been made on fitting the new crown stays. Third, the new bottle ends are being fitted to the B12 superheater flues ready to be sent for NDT. 14-10-2026

This week, Gresley TK E12493E has given up its lightweight bogies to act be overhauled for Gresley BTO E16331E that is due to arrive on the line soon. The cascade of bogies as coaches are overhauled will result in the TK eventually gaining a set of lightweight bogies in a few years time. It’s currently on a pair of heavyweights from the Thompson BG. 7-10-2026
