N2 update 28/5/26: this week the loco has seen some further steps forward completed, with the casting of the (concrete) brick arch in the firebox and smokebox floor completed yesterday. The loco has now been moved back into the shed and preparations made for weighing, another key step towards starting the running-in process. The cylinder lubricator has also received some attention after finding one of the feeds not working adequately and is due to be refitted imminently.

2026 locos to add to the fleet this year - 80080 is due back after retubing in June, no.22 returned to traffic yesterday (19th May) and the N2 is due in traffic from mid-July.

The N2 successfully passed its Part 2 In-Steam boiler test today and is now ready for test running. Test running will commence in early June after the half-term holiday running is over.

N2 Reassembly Update - 13-5-2026

It lives! Great news - yesterday the N2 was successfully test steamed at Weybourne and made its first moves under its own steam since 2018. The testing revealed a few snagging issues that are being dealt with. Next week it has its formal Part 2 insurance in-steam test. After that it will undergo running before re-entering the works for completion of the painting.

Loco works update - 6-5-2026

No.22 has had its brick arch reinstated in the firebox and is due to have its in-steam test next week. The new front barrel section for the B12 has been delivered to Weybourne. Tubeplate drilling continues on the B12’s front tubeplate, and both tubeplates for Ring Haw.

In C&W work on GER no.37 is nearing completion. Today it was undergoing an FTR exam to put it on the NNR maintenance regime. On BFO 14021 the ends are now in gloss black and the new woodwork for the gangway connection are being fitted. On TSO 3868 the Sheringham end windows are in place and work on the interior is well progressed. The salvaged under seat heaters have been fitted. 6-5-2026

N2 Reassembly Update - 6-5-2026

Test steaming imminent. The final components to enable test steaming are nearly all in place. The plan, once it passes its in-steam insurance inspection later this month, is to carry out test running, snagging, and running in. Once these are complete it will re-enter the works for completion of the paintwork, lettering, lining and varnishing. The plan is to have it ready for the peak season.
