"A Sad Sight"

H048, 97301, 60050 & 60086 sat in Shires Removal Yard in Kinsley.

H048, which I believed was named 'Bertie' according to the internet, was built in 1949 and was last known to be undergoing an overhaul in 2010, but it would seem it is the end of the road for this engine.

97301 was operated by Network Rail and the 60s by EWS.

All photos taken whilst the yard was closed.

I have neither the experience nor the equipment yet to master night photography. My lens only goes down to 4.5, so anything that moves is usually disastrous, hence why the 66 is missing, pulling the Inspiration Train from Ribble Steam Railway.

I wonder how many times a year signal PN116 is cleared, even fewer with the oil train no longer serving the line.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a 158 on the ECML

Another day North of Doncaster with the little monsters. I knew there was a Northern Sunday evening service which runs up the ECML to Temple Hirst Jct to Hull, which is normally a 170, but I'm happy to have snapped this diverted 158908 working 1J46 at Joan Croft. There must have been an earlier issue between Gilberdyke, Google and Thorne.

Pictures taken at Joan Croft, Fenwick, Dock Hills & Lowgate.

Also reported a few LC issues to Network Rail, one of which they attended while we were still there 🙂 Great to see them take safety seriously.

Whilst I was on my own, I tried something new and headed to the bridge near the Up Decoy Yard to start my day. Spotted 66508 & 66596 heading into the Railport with 66510 sat in the yard.

From there, I collected the kids after feeling guilty, and caught 66754 working the 0S15 to Millerhill S.S at Barcoft.

After that, we headed towards Selby, stopping off at Drax to watch 66774 waiting for permission to enter. We completed the day at Barlby LC, where we watched 185117, 158757 & 185103 pass.

"Ice Ice Baby", in the peaks

It's been a cold one today; however, that wind from the north made it bitterly cold. I normally like to go in and around Doncaster on the ECML, but today I went west on the Sheffield side of the peaks.

Calling at various points between Edale and Grindleford, including the Totley and Cowburn Tunnels.

Featuring: Northern 195s, TP 185 and EMR 158 and 170s.

Just a selection from today's travels with the kids in and around Doncaster.

Every Man/Women n Dog was out today :)

Like everyone else, we set out this morning to see the steam head North to York. We started south of Doncaster today and made our way to Babworth Loops to watch Sir Nigel Gresley take on water from a tanker. Then we jumped in car with no clear idea where to see it again and ended up just making it to Ranskill as it flew past.

Headed to Rushey Sidings on the Lincoln line, thinking Black 5 was on the way, turns out we were on the wrong line. Given it was running +50 we slowly headed towards Collingham, until we noticed it had diverted up the ECML at Newark to gain time.

So we flew up to Hambleton Jct and just made it to see it pass. Good to see a few others up there too.

Spent the rest of the day in the area and caught this ex-Scotrail turbostar on its way to Doncaster works, suspect it will be a Northern 170 soon.

We did wait for the Steam to pass back from York, I've included some videos, but it was dark. Love the fire raging though, lighting up the area, and the smoke hitting us.
... and chill.

It's the first time I've seen the sun come out in a week or two, so I called down to Elsecar to take a few snaps of the stopping and passing traffic.

150007 and 150001 made an appearance with a couple of 195s crawling through due to delayed stopping services.

I do work, I promise.... :)

A selection switching between Ings Lane and Moat Hills crossings. Spent an hour here before heading into Doncaster itself, and tried to get a few near Doncaster Station at Marsh Gate

Class 800s, 333, 70, a couple of 91s and 82s, 150, 158 and a snow plough :)
