AIRPORT CLOSURE - DAY 80
I spoke with Jacob Rees-Mogg yesterday evening regarding DSA. He is the Secretary of State for Business. He has agreed to liaise today with Simon Clarke MP who is the Secretary of State for Levelling Up.
Nobody in Government wants to see our busy and financially viable Airport close but they don’t have the devolved powers. Oliver Coppard holds those.
I have spoken with TUI who really love Doncaster Sheffield Airport. They don’t want to leave there. However unless Peel reverse their decision, they have little option.
I am pressing everyone I can. Whilst there is ever a glimmer of hope I will press and press.
GATEWAY EAST (GE)
There has been some controversy over Peel doing well out of this and that they have been given the green light to go ahead and build on the airport.
Let me make it very clear. Peel have not been given any such permission and I have been assured by Doncaster Council (DMBC) that no such permission would be given.
The Airport and GE are completely separate parcels of land. Many people don’t realise that. There is no reason to be alarmed at GE progressing forward.
AIRPORT PETITION
As you know a parliamentary petition has been started to Keep DSA Open.
The reasons why this petition is necessary are these:
- It raises public awareness and keeps the pressure on Peel to do the right thing.
- It will ensure a parliamentary debate if we get 100,000+ signatures
- And we can ask “Do we now need new legislation in place to ensure that regional airports cannot be shut down ever again at the whim of the owner?”
The parliamentary petition has to be approved and it takes about a week or so. I am however pushing for that to be done sooner than later.
I am still fighting. Stay strong.
