Solent Windship Co

Solent Windship Co We are dedicated to creating a more sustainable future for our oceans. Join us for a cleaner, greener future.

Our innovative clipper ship combines traditional spirit with modern technology to transport goods by sea in an environmentally friendly way. Ever looked at a tall ship sailing and thought "Wouldn't it be great if that ship was doing more than just sailing from A to B for the sake of sailing?"

With a love of Tall Ships, the life changing experiences that sail training can provide, combined with a

passion for Fair-trade and a care for the environment, we feel that combining all of this and joining the growing movement for the resurgence of sail cargo transportation makes a strong foundation for this project.

🌊 Day of the Seafarer 2025 ⚓

Today, we salute the world’s seafarers — the women and men who keep global trade moving, often unseen and underappreciated. Their skill, resilience, and endurance are the backbone of maritime life.

But on this day of recognition, we pause to reflect:

How many seafarers today still know the feel of a sail catching the wind?
The sound of canvas straining?
The subtle dance of sail trim and course held steady by hand and instinct?

In a world of automation and fuel-thirsty engines, the ancient art of sailing risks becoming memory — not muscle.

At Solent Windship Co, we believe there’s wisdom in the wind. And that seafaring, at its heart, is a craft — not just a career.

🌀 Here’s to the mariners of today — and to reviving the skills of those who came before.

🌊 Today is World Oceans Day

Our oceans are vital to life on Earth — regulating climate, supporting biodiversity, and sustaining communities.

At Solent Windship Co we’re committed to moving cargo with purpose:

✅ More tonnage

❌ No dirty emissions

By harnessing the power of the wind, we’re proving that shipping can be cleaner, smarter, and ocean-friendly.

Let’s sail toward a future where progress doesn't come at the ocean’s expense.

As today’s VE Day marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, we pause to remember the tremendous sacrifices made by so many.
Let us also take a moment to honour the often-forgotten Merchant Marine — the civilian sailors and crews who faced the same dangers as naval forces, without the recognition or protection.
Thousands of merchant ships, including sailing vessels, windjammers, and barques, were lost to U-boats, mines, and air attacks. These ships carried food, fuel, and essential supplies across hostile waters, often at great personal cost. More than 30,000 merchant seafarers from Britain and the Commonwealth never returned home.
Their service was quiet, their courage immense.
We remember them.

🌍 Earth Day 2025: Our Power, Our Planet 🌊

Today is a global reminder that this planet is not just our environment — it’s our home.
But caring for our home shouldn’t be reserved for just one day. Every day should be Earth Day.

At Solent Windship Co, we believe in harnessing the power of the wind to move cargo cleanly — reducing emissions, protecting our oceans, and rethinking what the future of shipping can look like.

🌀 This year’s theme, Our Power, Our Planet, reminds us that we all have a role to play.
From the choices we make to the innovations we back, the future is in our hands.

We’re working hard to bring wind propulsion back to commercial shipping — and we’d love for you to be part of that journey.
Because when we care for the Earth every day, it has the power to take care of us in return. 💚

🚨 BREAKING NEWS: Solent Windship Co. Reinvents Shipbuilding! 🚨
After months of secret research (and one too many pints at the local pub), we’re thrilled to announce a bold new direction for the construction of our eco-friendly sailing cargo ship: FERROCEMENT! 🏗️⚓
Why the change? Well, with so many shingle beaches around the Solent, it would be rude not to take advantage of our natural resources! We’ve done the math (sort of), and with enough buckets and determination, we can mix and pour our way into maritime history.
And in honor of our intended olive oil trade run to Greece, we’re naming her the "Maid of Crete." 🇬🇷 Because nothing says Mediterranean elegance like 900 tonnes of reinforced concrete gracefully gliding across the Aegean Sea.
Why Ferrocement?
✔️ Indestructible hull – Just like your grandad’s 1970s garden ornaments!
✔️ Local materials – Who needs high-tech composites when you’ve got gravel and hope?
✔️ A truly SOLID investment – It’s unsinkable… unless, of course, it sinks.
Critics say ferrocement ships are a thing of the past… but we say they’re the future (or at least a very heavy present). Will she be the world’s first self-anchoring ship? Probably. Will our crew need flippers if she springs a leak? Quite possibly.
To support this rock-solid maritime revolution, we’re launching a Kickstarter where you can sponsor a bag of cement. Because every great ship starts with a single shovelful. 😆

On this , we celebrate the extraordinary women who have shaped maritime history. Among them, Mary Ann Patten stands as a beacon of courage, resilience, and leadership.

In 1856, at just 19 years old, Mary Ann Patten defied expectations when she took command of the clipper ship Neptune’s Car. With her captain husband gravely ill and the first mate unfit for duty, she navigated the vessel around Cape Horn—one of the most treacherous passages in the world—while also caring for her husband and maintaining order among the crew.

She was more than just a captain—she was a navigator, leader, and fearless woman in a male-dominated world. Her legacy paved the way for women in maritime, proving that skill and determination know no gender.

Today, as we work towards a sustainable, inclusive future for shipping, we honor women like Mary Ann Patten—past, present, and future—who continue to inspire change at sea.
