Do you have management experience in business, charity, local government, health service or community transport?

Would you like to use that experience to help a respected local charity?

Scarborough Dial a Ride is seeking two people to join our Board of Trustees. Together, our volunteer Trustees, supported by the staff team, ensure that everything we do is done safely, legally and ethically, and in the best interests of the organisation and those we are here to help.

Previous experience of being a Trustee is NOT required, so don't let that put you off!

Our Trustees had the pleasure of awarding long-service and retirement gifts to some of our team recently.

Totalling an incredible 110 years of volunteering for Scarborough Dial a Ride, we are in awe of their kindness, dedication and commitment, without which we would be able to help only a fraction of the number of people that we do every day.

We are in desperate need of more volunteers to join our team as passenger assistants, car drivers or minibus drivers, as we are often fully-booked and having to turn away passengers who need us.

Well, the weather beat us today and, with the high risk of slips and slides on side roads and pavements, we had to cancel virtually all of the planned journeys to ensure the safety of our passengers and our team.

The forecast remains poor, with sub-zero temperatures overnight, so after prioritising medical appointments, we have already cancelled or moved some of tomorrow's journeys and will make a decision on the rest when we get in tomorrow morning.

Thank you so much to our staff and volunteers for coming in and being willing to try to brave the elements, but your safety and well-being are a top priority for us!

As we bring 2025 to a close, we are proud to look back on another very busy year.

We have helped nearly 350 people who had not travelled with us before and, as well as enabling local people to attend over 550 appointments at more distant locations, including hospitals in Bridlington, Malton, York, Hull etc, we have completed over 12,000 local journeys to support people to maintain their independence by helping them get to and from local shops, hairdressers, medical appointments, banks, cafes, restaurants etc.

There have been many highlights, but one of them has been recognising our staff and volunteers' long commitment and dedication to Dial a Ride (photo's of just a few are shown below). As well as being grateful to welcome new staff and volunteers, we are lucky to have several who have been with us for over 20 years and some for over 25!

As we head in to 2026, we expect to be as busy as ever, if not more so. If you, or someone you know, is interested in finding out more about how to volunteer at Dial a Ride - give us a call (but not until Friday, we are having New Year's Day off).

May we wish all of our volunteers, staff and passengers a very Happy New Year - we look forward to seeing you again in 2026.

We are now taking a short break for Christmas, and will return on Monday 29th December.

We would like to say an enormous thank you to every single one of our team for the dedication, commitment, kindness and compassion you bring to Dial a Ride. Without you, so many local people would be unable to maintain their independence, get to important appointments, meet with family and friends and lead a 'connected' life.

We would like to wish our team, their families and our passengers a restful, Merry Christmas. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

We are in desperate need of more volunteers to join our team, to help us provide caring, friendly and safe transport to local people using our fleet of minibuses, wheelchair-adapted MPVs and electric cars.

Every day we are having to turn away people who need us, as we don't have enough volunteer drivers and passenger assistants to meet the growing demand.

Can you spare one day per week, or even one day per fortnight (Monday-Friday only)?

Do you enjoy meeting and chatting to people?

Are you a careful, considerate driver, preferably (but not crucially, as we cars too) with some experience of driving vans/minibuses or larger vehicles?

Or, if you don't drive, are you reasonably fit (passenger assistants help with bags, wheelchairs etc)?

We would love to hear from you if you are interested.
