When people think about rail infrastructure, they usually picture trains, tracks and stations.

What they don’t often see is the equipment working quietly in the background to keep the railway moving safely and reliably every day.

And all of that equipment needs somewhere secure, protected and practical to live.

That’s where Relocatable Equipment Buildings (REBs) come in.

Our latest blog takes a closer look at what REBs are, what they’re used for, and why they play such an important role across modern rail projects.

This isn’t just any DNO cubicle.
This is an RSP DNO cubicle. 😉

Carefully engineered.
Precisely configured.
Built to thrive trackside, day after day, without compromise.

• Single or three-phase.
• Class I or Class II networks.
• Metering access.
• Switchgear layout.
• Cable entry and routing.

All of it has to be thought through before it ever reaches the site.

Because once it’s installed trackside, it’s expected to handle the environment, the load, and everything downstream without question.

RSP build high-quality, durable DNO Cubicles / Distribution Cubicles, built from Glass Reinforced Plastic GRP, mild or stainless steel.

We manufacture standard-size and layout rail DNO cubicle solutions, or bespoke, built to the client's specification.

Our DNO GRP cubicles are supplied in both single-phase 230V and 3 Phase 400V versions. All designed for Class I and Class II Networks.

Points clip cases don’t just house equipment.

They need to be:

- Accessible when needed.
- Secure when closed.
- Built for the environment they sit in every day.

Most people walking past the railway would never notice these.

But track teams know exactly what the blue band means.

These are Point Clip Cases, they store point clips and scotches ready for use on the track.

The blue band is there for one reason, quick identification.

It tells trackside staff the case contains standard, non-electrically operated point clips used during maintenance or switching work.

We’re seeing more tenders ask for carbon data now, not just a statement or a policy, but actual numbers.

Scope 1, 2 and sometimes Scope 3.

We have spoken to many businesses that aren’t that confident in the numbers they are providing; they use manual spreadsheets or spend-based data, which isn’t adding up!

That’s where it starts to become a problem in procurement.

We worked with Attain Zero to calculate our carbon emissions across 2023–2025.

The process was straightforward.

We provided the core data, and they handled the details.

It’s already supported tender conversations, and this year, we’re moving into Scope 3.

Not every relay rack order gets a chauffeur-driven collection… but these came close. 😄

Relay racks complete, tested, and heading out the door with Amaro, who arrived in a very smart-looking van, we might add. 👀

We can supply bare relay racks or fully designed and fitted-out racks.

Our Network Rail approved Signalling Equipment Racks are designed to fit the available space and can hold a wide array of rail signalling and power equipment.

By using BRS-SM 440 bar work, the configuration possibilities of these relay racks are endless, ensuring every project’s requirements can be met and exceeded.

We are compliant to L*L, DLR and Network Rail Standards. The use of zero-halogen, low-smoke equipment allows our racks to be installed in tunnels and underground environments if required.

We're always happy to have a chat about your specific requirements.

When you look inside, and it's strangely satisfying!

Everything exactly where you’d expect it to be. That comes down to how well it was thought through at the start.

You have to admire the workmanship

RSP will be exhibiting at the upcoming RIN Glasgow on 21st May at the Scottish Event Campus.

RIN events are always a good opportunity to step away from emails and Teams calls for a few hours and actually catch up with people, properly.

Whether it’s meeting new contacts, seeing familiar faces, discussing upcoming projects, or just hearing what’s happening across the industry, it’s always a worthwhile event in the rail calendar.

If you’re attending, come and say hello to Andrew Billson CMgr FCMI MIRSE.

Warning time isn’t something you leave to chance! That’s why systems like ATWS are designed to be consistent.

What is a ATWS?

When using the Axle Counting ATWS solution, it removes the human interaction of cancelling warnings. ATWS adds an additional layer of protection by automating detection and warning, while still allowing flexibility for dynamic, open-line working. The solution counts axles into the worksite and does not cancel any worksite warning until all axles are counted out of the system, in a multitude of directional routes.

This combination of automation and axle counting makes ATWS particularly suitable for permanent worksites.

How does an Automatic Track Warning System Work?

Train detection via axle counter – A Frauscher FADC unit is retrofitted and used for reliable train detection, powered by a mains supply.

Detectors positioned for real-world warning time – Axle counter train detectors are installed at calculated distances to ensure sufficient warning time for workers on site.

Centralised control – The detectors are hardwired back to a central cabinet, which houses the electronic control unit, radio transmitters, and power supply, keeping everything robust, monitored, and site-ready.

Instant warnings where they matter – Once a train is detected, radio signals trigger audio and visual alerts on personal or site-wide devices.

Designed for transient worksites – Once installed, quick to deploy, adaptable in range, and approved for dynamic open-line working, improving both safety and productivity.
