Annie answers: “Is it safe to visit my container after dark?”

The clocks go back this weekend, and some of you will be visiting your container in the dark.

Annie’s advice: bring a torch or head torch, tell someone where you’re going, and park with your headlights facing the doors. Our yards are covered by CCTV 24/7.

The plan: Henry walks the yard and shows you real life at Giant Storage.

Gates. Fencing. Cameras. Container doors.

Claiming to be ill was not an option. 🤒❌

What actually happened: Henry got as far as the office door. 🚪

Then he decided the best footage was Annie at reception, explaining (again) what he was supposed to be filming.

His verdict? “This is what I have to deal with on a day to day basis.” 😭

Henry, mate. You’re the boss. 😂

If your completion date has just moved again, you are not the only one this month.

Storage with us is seven days' notice when you want to leave, so a container is not a commitment you will regret if the chain shifts again. And at Frome and both Salisbury sites, if you take a 20ft or 40ft for three months or more, we will move you in free of charge as well.

Written quote first so you can see what the move would have cost. Then keys and 24 hour access the same day.

Garden furniture, pots and mowers taking over the garage?

Gav’s inside one of our containers, which a customer is using to store their whole garden for winter. Here’s how to do it properly:

🪴 Pots and statues: empty them completely. No soil left in, then stack them carefully.
🚜 Ride-on and petrol mowers: drain the oil and fuel if you can, and disconnect the battery. They store much better that way.
🪑 Furniture: clean it and dry it properly (this is the big one). Stack chairs seat to seat and bag the cushions separately. Never put anything away damp.

A steel container keeps the lot out of the wind and rain until spring.

Henry's first container, nine years on

Nine years ago Henry bought one 40ft container for £1,000 in Salisbury.

Today there are more than 550 across our yards in Wiltshire and Somerset. Same family, same straight-talking approach.

"What size container do I actually need?"

It's the question Mel gets asked most, so we asked her for expert advice.

"As a rough guide, an 8ft container suits a small flat's worth of boxes, a 20ft takes most 2-3 bed house moves, and a 40ft handles a 4 bed house plus the garage".
