Old Sarum Airfield has for nearly 100 years played an important role not only in defending the United Kingdom from its enemies, but also in the development of British aviation and many of its related activities. From its inception as a Training Depot Station during WWI until today, Old Sarum’s original flying field has been used continuously for aviation and this together with the three WWI listed

hangars provide a unique setting for those visiting and using the airfield today. Old Sarum is Wiltshire’s only licensed airfield and is the home to many resident aircraft (modern and historic), a flying school, parachuting and microlight operations. Its popular café offers good food every day during opening hours. The airfield is also home to the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection and, in partnership with the airfield, its listed hangar is now home to a number of historic flying aircraft. Plans for the airfield will bring significantly improved aviation facilities and offer much greater options for the use by historic aircraft to be hangared and displayed in the listed hangars. A new restaurant and visitor centre is also planned together with modern hangarage (some with integral accommodation) and a bespoke parachuting centre.
