Rugeley Power Station Society of Model Engineers

Rugeley Power Station Society of Model Engineers We are a group of model engineers who share our hobby on the former Rugeley Power Station site. Our track has signalling that replicates the full size railways.

We are a group of model engineers that meet up at our workshop, steaming facilities and running track within the grounds of the Rugeley Power Station in Staffordshire, but with the closure and pending demolition of the power station we are strictly members only and cannot have visitors at the moment. We normally hold monthly meetings at Armitage Village Hall on the third Wednesday of each month bu

t with the current Covid-19 restrictions these are currently suspended
Our Society has been established for over 50 years having been formed in 1971 when it was originally located In Cannock Park before the Society relocated to our present site and completed construction work on the new track in August 1991. Since then thanks to the work carried out by dedicated members our track and facilities have been continuously upgraded and improved. The main interest represented by our Society is the steam railway locomotive and steam traction engine, although our members interests also include diesel outline electric locomotives, along with other model engineering activities. Our facilities provide an attractively landscaped raised level track of 1,950 feet with a minimum radius of 43 feet. This can accommodate 3.1/2" and 5 " gauges and smaller 7.1/4" locomotives (such as standard 0-4-0 or 0-6-0 tank engines or riding trucks). We have a large workshop space, kitchen and clubhouse alongside an 8 road steaming bay and turntable with 12v electrics with a hydraulic lift for unloading, as well as parking and toilet facilities. Our Society is a member of the Southern Federation of Model Engineers and Midland Federation of Model Engineers. VISITING US
We are currently unable to receive any visitors, but we hope that in the not too distant future we can allow visiting societies. Visits from Model Engineering Societies. We have in the past hosted the Midlands Federation Rally, and visits from the London & North Western Society, as well as several midlands based Model Engineering Societies. Our members enjoy visits from other Model Engineering Societies, when these visitors can bring their own locos to run on our extensive 3'1/2" and 5" gauge raised level track, and be in the company of like minded model engineering and railway enthusiasts. Such visits can often be arranged on a 'home and 'away' basis. If your society would like to visit us please Contact Us and our Secretary will offer you available dates, and perhaps also agree a date for our own visit to your facilities
We look forward to seeing you. MEMBERSHIP

Yesterday saw us hold our annual members 3 1/2” locomotive rally, we were honoured to be able to host some fantastic locomotives from all over the country, as with previous years we were blessed with a warm sunny day. Thank you to everyone for making the day memorable.
