On Wednesday we did a job from Mottisfont in the searing heat. The customer (ex RAF) said that he had moved 34 times in his life and that this was the best one!

I'm delighted to have had Alex back today (and then some) portering for us, with his usual high energy and good spirits.

His passions (apart from portering) are kick boxing and running his own gym. He successfully toured Asia back in Febuary acquitting himself well in several fights. His gym is "The Barn" at Chilcomb Lane in Wi******er.

Removals are in his blood - his uncle (John) was my warehouseman for nearly 20 years.

If you require a personal trainer in the Wi******er area (and further) then I cannot recommend Alex enough.

Last night was the warmest ever May night on record. Today looks like being even warmer than yesterday, which was blisteringly hot. If we're moving you, please offer the guys lots of fluids to keep them hydrated. It means a lot.

Happy to report that yesterday I was appointed the new chairman of the southern region of BAR (British Association of Removers).

We take our membership of BAR seriously and always endeavour to keep abreast of what is going on in our industry so that everything is run as efficiently as possible. Hopefully I'll be able to give something back by serving in this role.

The day before yesterday was the last Friday of the month, so it meant that we were busy - too busy in fact.

Solicitors (and I don't know who) love to arrange for house sales to fall on the last Friday of the month, meaning that Removal companies (and bankers) have lumpy, feast & famine type demand for their services. So here is a removal tip: - Tell your solicitor that you don't want to move on a Friday.

Anyway, the picture shows my youngest son, on his school holiday, finally getting to the last tier whilst unloading, having worked hard all day with minimal breaks. "Getting to the last tier" is a removal man's definition of happiness. When he's running Bradbeers in 20 year's time, at least he'll know the business from the bottom up.

Happy to report that our 7½ ton MAN sailed through its MoT last week, so we're keeping her for another year. The main picture shows her best side. It's handy having a lorry that you don't mind scratching when you're maneuvering into a tight access.

1998 chassis - I bought her second hand 25 years ago. She's legally exempted from having a speed limiter, so can do 70mph (obviously only on private land). My favourite lorry by miles.

We had a paper delivery today - the top picture shows 100 reams of paper on a euro pallet. Each ream weighs 10kg, meaning that the pallet weights a tonne.

The lower picture shows a couple of sheets of paper screwed up - this might be used for wrapping china & glass. It can also be put into a box which is nearly full, but not quite. This would pad it out, meaning that the box won't crush when it is stacked on a lorry or in a container.

Packing tip: - If you are packing plates - put them on their edge in a carton, don't lay them down. If you drop a carton properly packed then nothing inside will break.
