Medway Council Cabinet agreed in January to return the management of .castle to .

English Heritage is currently working on its future plans for the site. It is hoped that new opening arrangements will be in place from May and more details will follow about the future plans in due course.

If you are looking for a fabulous day out in Medway in the meantime, there are plenty of other historic sites to enjoy including .castle .house .museum .chatham

Upnor Castle is currently closed and will be opening for guided tours on selected dates from May.

If you are looking for a fabulous day out in Medway, there are plenty of other historic sites to enjoy including Rochester Castle, , Eastgate House, Rochester, Guildhall Museum Rochester, Historic Dockyard Chatham, and . There’s plenty for all to enjoy.

Time is running out to visit Upnor Castle, Medway for 2025 - we close our gates at 4pm today, with last entry at 3.15pm. Don't miss out on seeing our beautiful castle, and thanks to all our visitors who have stepped back in time to see this Elizabethan treasure on the banks of the River Medway.

It is nearly time to close the gates to .castle for the season, so if you haven't visited yet or would like to come again, do come down today or tomorrow. We open 10am to 4pm, last entry 3.15pm, and we can't wait for you to see the lovely views from the Bastion and the Clock Tower!

If you enjoyed our spooky trail around the castle this , why not go to our sister site this Halloween for a truly spooky, scary night in one of Rochester's most historic buildings... do you dare?

It’s nearly Halloween, and tickets are selling fast for the spookiest event of the year in Rochester!

An Evening of Classic Ghost Stories returns to Eastgate House on Fri 31 Oct, Sat 1 and Sun 2 Nov.

Come and enjoy a sensational selection of spine-chilling tales read for you in unique historic setting of this beautiful late Tudor mansion.

The readings include stories from British literature along with some popular local legends. You can even share a ghostly tale of your own if you dare!

Performances take place at 5pm and 7pm each evening, and tickets cost £12.

Get • This is your last chance before it closes for the winter to come and see Hysterical History at Upnor Castle, Medway on this coming Thursday.
We have been there about 7 times this year and everytime we have been busy so, if your looking for something to explore and be entertained with history then join Lt Palmer of the Royal Engineers from WW2. They’ll be a big bomb onsite to have a go at defuzing, maybe earn a badge, hear some funny stories about Stupid Grandads and bombs and why not even sign the kids up for a free holiday as a child evacuee. Also learnt what to do if you ever find anything.
English Heritage members get free access with an additional small fee (but it’s worth it, im quite entertaining!)

This was great to see today! Come back this week for our trail (Wednesday to Sunday) and Bomb Squad day (Thursday!)
