The Golden Valley Light Railway is a 610 mm (24ins) narrow gauge railway and normally operates on selected mid-week dates; all weekends and Bank Holidays throughout the season from April to late October. The running line is almost a mile in length and operates as one of a number of attractions at the Midland Railway - Butterley, Nr Ripley, Derbyshire. Steam and diesel hauled trains run through the

Country Park and terminate at Newlands Inn Station, which overlooks the disused Cromford Canal. How do I get to the GVLR
The Narrow Gauge Railway is located on the main museum site at the Midland Railway - Butterley. It can be accessed via Butterley Station which is situated one mile north of Ripley, Derbyshire on the B6179. Please visit the Midland Railway - Butterley's web site for further detailed directions on bus, rail or train travel.

In preparation for the coming running season, we spent yesterday walking the line and tightening any loose fishplate bolts.
GVLR trains start running on Saturday 5th April.
On Sunday 6th April we will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Ashover Light Railway, with the Ashover Band, Coach ALR No.4 and O&K7529.
