Midland Railway Trust Railcar group update.

M59659, another batch of reupholstered cushions collected and another batch sent off, remainder counted to make sure we have them all, we're now onto the 4th roll of moquette for this vehicle.

Class 114, its all the little niggly tasks at the moment and they all seem to take far longer than expected, both vehicles have had the wiper motors and associated arms refitted, pipework reinstated and await testing, heater duct covers at all passenger doors are now cut and fitted, some of these were made for us over 20 years ago and have finally been fitted, a deep clean and clearout also well on the way. Final stages of cab assembly ongoing. One vital missing component now sourced, and will be with us in a couple of weeks.

Class 127, 32 brake blocks of the correct type have been sourced and plans are in place to start looking at getting stuck in with the works needed to return it to operational status now we are running out of jobs to do on the 114. Hopefully at least one vehicle will be moved onto shed in the coming weeks so we can get started

A very difficult week for DMU preservation, with the extremely sad news that Mr Trevor Daw passed away this week, many will know of him, I personally knew him for over 20 years, his help, advice and support in repairing certain bits of a DMU was extremely valuable to me and many others, he will be missed RIP Trevor.

Work continues on the class 114 dmu with recent attention to the gangways, all the surround timbers have been refitted, the curtains have been boil washed and fitted, the bellows have seen better days but the budget won't allow them to be replaced presently. The rain cover has been renewed using material from a scrap curtain side trailer and just needs a coat of a bitumen based paint.

Elsewhere a problem with a fuel tank is being investigated and the power car cab is slowly being reassembled. If anyone has a screen wash filler screw lid please get in touch we'd like to fit one!

Apologies for the lack of information/progress updates, but my first day at the railway for a significant amount of time, work continues in the 114 with a view to it running later this year..

A delivery of new vac bags has arrived, these are now being fitted and wrestled into position, all of the power car cab window woodwork has been located, repaired/varnished and awaits other jobs to be sorted prior to being fitted. Speaking of other jobs the one big task that we haven't been looking forward to was the fitting of the power car internal cab dome, recovered from an identical vehicle you'd think it would fit without issue, nope! Took most of the day to fit, adjust, amend, but we've secured it, work can now progress in the cab with the drivers seat taken out of store to give us sight of the finish line. Still plenty to do and work continues as time and money allow.
