One of the first big jobs this winter was replacing the ashpan on Pioneer. The old one was rather worn out, but what is to be expected after 34 years service!
It's new one comes with a new door arrangement, front opening damper as well as a few tweaks to give the rear truck a bit more space.

What a year we've had! Talos and Zeus returned to service from 10 year overhauls, whilst good progress has been made with William Rufus and Vixen's overhauls. Several wagons have been restored including some of our P.Way fleet along with lots of other projects and day to day maintenance.
We've got lots lined up for next year too, let's hope its a good one!

With Santa trains now up and running space is a premium around the railway and we have to get creative about storeage.

Talos has been let out for good behavior! Following it's overhaul early this year Talos has been allowed out to play for our Santa Specials. You may not know this but it is the first year Talos has pulled our Santa Trains since 2012! Normally it is parked up as part of our magical winter wonderland experience but we're sure it would rather be really useful pulling the trains. 🚂

William Rufus' main steam and exhaust pipework is coming together. Some quite fiddly pipe runs inside it's smokebox have been fabricated. Also the framework for the spark arrestor can be seen, lots of work in a small space!

🚂Installation of regulator and internal steam pipe
🚂Construction of Firehole doors
🚂Fitting of gauge glasses & regulator handle
🚂Fitting of the new boiler cladding sheets & footplates

Next on the list is the steampipes inside the smokebox and running to the rear power unit.

Steam locomotive like to surprise us. Offa recently developed a steam leak under it's smokebox creating a lovely whistling noise. What was found was the smallest of pin holes in its steam pipe and of course in one of the most awkward places.
We'll let you try and find it in the picture!
