Here's a Facebook ๐Ÿš— Why Invest in Further Driver Training? ๐Ÿš‘

Many drivers focus heavily on the physical skills of driving โ€“ steering, braking, gear changes, and vehicle control. While these are essential, the real difference between an average driver and an exceptional driver lies in their higher mental processing abilities.

Advanced driver training is not just about making a vehicle move safely; it's about developing the driver's ability to:

โœ… Anticipate hazards before they develop
โœ… Read the road and traffic environment effectively
โœ… Process information earlier and more accurately
โœ… Make sound decisions under pressure
โœ… Plan well ahead rather than simply react
โœ… Manage risk dynamically as situations change
โœ… Maintain situational awareness in complex environments

The best drivers are not necessarily those with the quickest reactions. They are the drivers who rarely need quick reactions because they have already identified potential problems and adapted their driving accordingly.

For driving instructors, continued professional development is equally important. By enhancing our own higher-order thinking skills, we become better equipped to develop these abilities in our learners. We move beyond teaching vehicle control and start coaching drivers to think, assess, predict, and plan.

This is where true driving expertise is developed.

Whether you're a newly qualified driver, an experienced motorist, or a professional instructor, investing in advanced driver training helps build the cognitive skills that underpin safe, smooth, and systematic driving.

After all, driving is not primarily a physical task โ€“ it's a thinking task carried out in a moving vehicle.

Knowing the rules of the road are crucial to any road user, but none more so, than that of driving instructor instructors.

It is crucial that you are able to interpret a question from your pupil as a lack in knowledge on their part, if you don't have a deep rooted knowledge, you will not hear that weakness.

All it takes is to read the highway code for 20 minutes a day. That will start the ball rolling, but at least start.

TRAINEE & QUALIFIED DRIVING INSTRUCTORS

How good do you want to be?????

I have said before and will say again, Knowledge is SO important.
Knowledge is crucial to becoming a safe, competent and complete driving instructor.

The more you know, the easier you will find being a trainee or qualified driving instructor.

It is virtually impossible to force knowledge whilst training to develop through role play, which, any decent trainer should be able to play the part of a student and allow specific areas of weakness to develop.

However, the customers need to have a sufficient knowledge base to build on, other wise, without foundation, nothing will stand!

As a minimum, you need to have a good knowledge of the highway code, but because people have driven for several years, it falls by the wayside believing you are knowledgeable enough.

You need to commit it to long term memory!

Another fantastic day spent coaching a PDI (Potential Driving Instructor/Trainee Driving Instructor) and focusing on something that often makes the biggest difference to learner progressโ€”not teaching new driving skills, but changing the way we think about teaching them.

Today was all about helping the instructor move away from simply telling learners what to do and instead encouraging them to think, analyse, and take ownership of their decisions behind the wheel.

When learners understand why they are doing something, rather than just following instructions, real behavioural change begins to happen.

We explored coaching techniques, effective questioning, and strategies to help learners reflect on their own driving, identify risks, and develop safer habits for life.

The result? More engaged learners, greater self-awareness, and driving behaviours that are far more likely to stick.

It's always rewarding to see a PDI have those "lightbulb moments" and recognise that great instruction isn't just about developing driving skillsโ€”it's about developing thinking drivers.

Looking forward to seeing these new approaches put into practice and the positive impact they'll have on future learners.

If you are an adi or pdi who needs some assistance, feel free to drop me a message for a confidential chat.

So this is what an adult male believes is appropriate behaviour?

11 years for taking a life, when will there be some rules put in place to stop these canisters being sold to this who don't require them?

They are for catering purposes and nothing else, I appreciate that they could still be sold on, but this is outrageous.

Just last night I was walking with my son, who said to me, "I can't believe that guy is walking down the street inhaling gas from a balloon in broad daylight"

It i a criminal offence, I can almost put my house on this chap then getting in to a car and driving it just like this role model did.

I feel for the families of everyone involved.

Substance abuse kills, so many accidents are as a result of human performance being hindered by an external factor, in this case, the laughing gas!

Please take a moment to think!
