🚤 Yard Assistant Required (Seasonal)
📍 Location: Caversham Boat Services, Reading
🕒 Hours: 40 hours per week, 5 days a week (including some weekends), 8:30am–5:30pm
💷 Pay: Depending on experience
About the Role
We're looking for a reliable, hardworking and hands-on individual to join our friendly team as a Seasonal Yard Assistant. This is a varied role where no two days are the same, offering a mix of boat maintenance, customer interaction and general yard duties.
Main Duties
🔹 Maintaining our hire boat fleet, including sanding, painting, woodwork and cleaning
🔹 Training in engine maintenance, including customer call-outs
🔹 Learning to drive the fleet and assisting with customer demonstrations and boat handovers
🔹 General site maintenance, including mowing, painting, sweeping and other yard duties
🔹 Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the boatyard
Previous experience with engineering, painting or slipway operations would be an advantage, but full training will be provided for the right person.
We're Looking For Someone Who Is:

✔ Willing to learn and take on a variety of tasks
✔ Friendly and approachable with good customer service skills
✔ Flexible and happy to work additional hours when required

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable, hardworking and hands-on individual to join our friendly team as a Seasonal Yard Assistant. This is a varied role where no two days are the same, offering a mix of boat maintenance, customer interaction and general yard duties.

Duties Include
Assisting with the maintenance of our hire boat fleet, including sanding, painting, woodwork and cleaning.
Learning to drive our hire boats and assisting customers with boat demonstrations and handovers.
Carrying out general yard maintenance, including mowing, painting, sweeping and other tasks as required.
Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the boatyard.
Working as part of a team to ensure the yard is presented to a high standard.

Experience in painting or slipway operations would be an advantage but is not essential, as full training will be provided.

About You
Practical, reliable and hardworking.
Willing to learn and take on a variety of tasks.
Friendly and confident when dealing with customers.
Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
A full UK driving licence is desirable.
Additional Information
Overtime will be available throughout the season, including weekends, particularly during our busiest period from August to October.
We are looking for someone who is flexible and willing to work additional hours when required.
This seasonal role may lead to a permanent position for the right candidate.

Hire Interior Cleaner Required (Seasonal)

📍 Hours: 9:00am – 2:00pm
💷 Wage: National Minimum Wage

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Seasonal Hire Interior Cleaner to join our friendly team.

The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring our hire boats are cleaned to a high standard within the tight turnaround times on changeover days. Duties will also include assisting with laundry and linen when required, as well as general housekeeping around the yard, including cleaning the offices and reception area.

Duties Include:
Cleaning the interior of hire boats to a high standard.
Working efficiently to meet turnaround deadlines.
Assisting with laundry and linen as required.
General housekeeping of the office, reception and other communal areas.
Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the premises.
About You
Previous cleaning experience would be an advantage but is not essential, as full training will be provided.
Reliable, hardworking and able to work to deadlines.
Good attention to detail.
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional Information
Friday working is essential during the busy season.
Additional shifts may be available, particularly during August through to mid-September.

Update on the swans – Beryl 🦢
We're saddened to share that Beryl has lost another egg. 😢 An Egyptian goose attacked the nest while she was away, and despite our best efforts, we were too late to chase it off.
We watched as Beryl gently carried the damaged egg away to the river, which was heartbreaking to see. 💔
Afterwards, we checked the nest and quickly removed any spoiled leaves and twigs to make sure everything was as clean and comfortable as possible.
The good news is that Beryl was straight back onto the nest, continuing to care for her remaining eggs. She's being an amazing mum, and we're hopeful that it won't be long now before we see some cygnets hatch. 🤞❤️🦢
Please keep your fingers crossed for Beryl and her babies – we're all hoping for some happy news very soon. 🐣💕
