Thames Valley Tours

Thames Valley Tours I am a ‘not for profit’Group Travel Organiser. ‘Thames Valley Tours is the name of our group. The Tour Operators used are fully bonded for security.

I run several short breaks each year mostly to Europe and in the UK. Thames Valley Tours is the 'nom de plume' of Andrea Golder, a retired Civil servant with many years experience of organising short breaks for former colleagues. Andrea also runs these trips as a volunteer for the CSSC (a civil service sports and social club). Trips are run on a non-profit-making basis, providing mostly short bre

aks of between 1 - 5 days, to Europe or in the UK. Being short and affordable, these trips appeal to both groups and individuals alike. Ideal for single people as they know they will be in good company and looked after. Trips may be by coach, train or plane, depending on duration and destination. Members of the CSSC can expect to receive a subsidy towards the cost of these trips, but non-members are very welcome to join us. The CSSC is open to all current and retired Public Sector workers. For further information about the CSSC see www.CSSC.co.uk.

It’s been a while since I ran a dedicated Christmas Market trip to Europe, other than a sea cruise at that time of year.
I can now offer you a ‘cracker’ of a trip by Eurostar! 20-23 November.
This is a three night break to Valkenburg, staying half board in our favourite family run hotel the Hotel Shaepkens. I’ve used them several times before and they put on an excellent spread at breakfast and dinner.
Valkenburg is one of the very few places in the Netherlands that is not completely flat.
It even has a ruined castle on too of a hill! It is where the Red Bull soap box races are held.
It is quaint and pretty little town and is beautifully decorated at Christmas time.
Its streets are lined with bars and cafes where you can sit outside under rugs, warmed by glowing braziers while you drink your Gluhwein or hot chocolate.
On a Saturday night they hold a musical parade that winds through the town complete with decorated floats, dancers and of course the great man himself - St Nicholas!
But the most distinctive thing about Valkenburg is its main Christmas Markets, which are held underground in ‘caves’(well, actually they are old stone mine workings). These are prettily decorated throughout with Christmas trees and fairly lights and are magical places to visit.
There are also some lovely shops to browse, so if you like shopping, you won’t be disappointed.
We are booked on an early Eurostar train out of St Pancras to Brussels where a coach will meet us and take us the rest of the way (thus avoiding two train changes).
We will be in Valkenburg by lunchtime!
To book simply phone Fred.Holidays direct on:
0800 988 3369 quoting our
booking ref: P01425 ‘Valkenburg Christmas Markets’.
NB. If you would like to push the boat out (well ‘train’ out), you can upgrade your Eurostar for the Premier experience and enjoy a more spacious, quieter carriage with a glass of champagne and a light lunch! Enquire about this option when you phone to book.

Anyone fancy a little cruise next Christmas? 13-18 December.
It’s out of Tilbury on the ‘Ambience’, with Ambassador Cruise line.
It is calling in at ports in Germany, Holland and Belgium where the Christmas markets will be in full swing.
Having already done 3 Christmas Cruises with Ambassador I can really recommend this cruise.
The ship will be beautifully decorated for Christmas, and with cabins from just £449 pp for 5 nights FULL Board plus entertainment and loads of on board activities, this is a real bargain! The entertainment is fantastic, with West End quality singers and dancers, plus talks, quizzes, crafts sessions, etc etc etc.
Not only that, but if you book by 12 Feb you can take advantage of their half price drinks package offer! The package also takes care of your mandatory gratuities and it works out that your daily drinks consumption , that includes premium coffees and cocktails, would only amount to £18 per night after deducting the cost of the gratuities. So for example you could have wine with lunch and dinner, a couple of drinks in the afternoon, an aperitif before dinner, drinks in the evening etc etc all for £18 per night. Plus, if we can get a group of 15 or more, we get 5% off the advertised price of your cabins.
If you are interested in joining me and my group, please message me for further information.
