This dog bed sitting thing is becoming a regular occurrence in our office 😅

We took our meeting onto the floor for some dog therapy whilst we caught up on our workload priorities this morning.

Wellbeing is so important and comes in many forms (such as dog cuddling!), which is why our volunteer drivers are so crucial to our passengers. They allow those in our community who can’t get out and about as easily as others to keep their independence and access crucial health and wellbeing activities many of us take for granted.

As well as being very important four-legged staff members here at SWAN, Gunner and Waffles are also active therapy dogs with Dogs for Health, and they take their job very seriously!

Visitors are always welcome to pop in for a cuddle if they’re feeling blue ❤️🐾

“I'd love to volunteer… but I don't really have enough time.”
We get it. And that's exactly why we're asking for something much smaller...

ONE JOURNEY A WEEK

- You don't need to give us three days
- You don't need to be available whenever we call
- You don't need to spend your entire retirement volunteering!

Perhaps you're free every Tuesday morning, or Wednesday afternoon.

That little regular window in your diary could mean one of our passengers can reliably get to their day centre, wellbeing activity or another important part of their week.

You choose what works for you, and we'll support you along the way:
- Mileage paid at 55p per mile
- Parking expenses covered while on SWAN duties
- DBS organised
- Training and induction provided
- Friendly SWAN team at the end of the phone
-
We're particularly looking for more volunteer drivers in and around and .

So, if you've ever thought about volunteering but assumed you didn't have enough time…

Maybe you do.

“It's as much for me as it is for them.”
That's something one of our volunteer drivers told us.

Another said: “It makes me feel useful.”
And another: “I live on my own and driving gives me a sense of adventure, it breaks the boredom.”

We share a lot about what volunteer drivers give our passengers, but perhaps we don't talk enough about what our drivers get from volunteering:
- Friendships
- Purpose
- Routine
- Plenty of conversations
- Some brilliant characters
- And the feeling of knowing that someone got where they needed to be because of them.

With regular journeys, our drivers get to know their passengers, their families and the places they visit.

And you don't have to make volunteering your whole life - we're asking for ONE journey a week.

If you're retired or have a little spare time during the week, have a car and enjoy being around people, we'd love to hear from you, particularly if you live in or around or .

On Wednesday 2nd September we were delighted to have nominated two of our brilliant Radstock Food Club volunteers, Chris and Sue, to attend HM's Lord Lieutenant of Somerset Garden Party, which celebrated and recognised the work of individuals who contribute much to local charities, but without necessarily always receiving the recognition that they deserve.

Thank you to Angela at the Quartet Community Foundation for choosing our Food Club as one of the nominated charities to attend, and for your continued support with funding, advice and recognition of our work.

Chris and Sue, being such dedicated volunteers, even managed to collect all the leftover cake and bring it to Food Club, making sure nothing went to waste and our members got to share in a taste of the celebrations, too!

A massive thank you and shout out to all our amazing volunteers across the Food Club and SWAN - we couldn’t make such an impact without you!

Imagine not being able to visit the person you love because you just can't get there.

One of the regular journeys we need volunteer drivers for is something most of us wouldn't think twice about: Taking a passenger to visit their husband, who lives in a care home.
- It's not a hospital appointment.
- It's not an emergency.
But we'd argue it's pretty darn important; time with the person they love.

Across BANES, our volunteer drivers help people continue doing the things that matter to them, and right now, we particularly need more drivers from the and areas.

You don't need to volunteer every day.
You don't even need to volunteer several times a week.

Could you give someone ONE regular journey a week?

We pay 55p per mile, cover parking expenses while you're on SWAN duties and provide the training and support you need. Most importantly, you'll have the SWAN team behind you.

If you're patient, reliable, kind and have a car, we'd love to have a chat.

Call us on 01761 439548, email sofia [at] swan-transport.co.uk, message us on Facebook, or pop into our Radstock office.

One journey a week might not feel like much to you, but to the person waiting for it, it could mean everything.

ONE JOURNEY A WEEK.

That's all it could take to make a huge difference to someone's life.

We are looking for more volunteer drivers, particularly in the and areas who could offer just one regular journey a week.

It might be taking someone with learning difficulties to a day centre, helping someone get to their health and wellbeing activities such as swimming or football, or making sure someone can visit their loved one in a residential care home.

For our passengers these aren’t just journeys from A to B. They are independence, routine, a break from isolation, and the ability to leave the house.

One regular journey a week with a SWAN volunteer driver is enough to achieve this.

Share a couple of hours of your time a week:

- 55p per mile and parking expenses
- Training and support provided
- DBS check organised by us
- Choose journeys that work for you
- And there's always a cuppa waiting at the SWAN office!

Could you be the difference in someone’s life with just one journey a week?

Message us on Facebook, call us on 01761 439548, email sofia [at] swan-transport.co.uk, or pop in to our office on Waterloo Road in Radstock for an informal chat. There's absolutely no obligation.

We're particularly looking for drivers in Bath and Keynsham.

One journey = one big difference.
