FREE TO A GOOD HOME – 1967 Marcon Cutlass 27

We'd much rather see this old yacht sailing again than ending up neglected or broken up.

This 1967 Marcon Cutlass is looking for a new custodian. She's not a sail-away project and will need some work, but there's plenty here for someone looking for a classic yacht to tinker with and bring back to life.

📍 Located: Kemps Quay, River Itchen, Southampton

The Basics
⚓ 27ft Marcon Cutlass (1967)
⚓ Vire 7hp inboard engine (was running, but hasn't been tested recently)
⚓ Approx. 4 foresails included
⚓ Solar panels and mounting kit included, ready to be fitted

What Needs Doing:

🔧 Halyards have been removed for cleaning and will need re-running through the mast (mousing lines already in place)

🔧 Some wood work required, including grab rails and sections of toe rail (replacement teak supplied)

🔧 Electrical system was stripped back and simplified but the work wasn't completed (parts and equipment included)

She's not currently seaworthy and will need some remedial work before heading back onto the water, but the bones seem to be there for somebody with the time and enthusiasm to take her on.

💷 Price: FREE

The owner simply wants to see her go to someone who'll give her a second chance.

If you've been looking for an affordable classic yacht project, this could be a great opportunity.

Please get in touch if you'd like any further information or would like to arrange a viewing.

⛵ Our little bit of Positive News… ⚓️

Over the last couple of years, Dorset Boat Recycling Services has grown into something much bigger than we ever expected.

What started as a way of helping unwanted boats find new homes has led to us helping families clear collections after bereavement, supporting sailing clubs with abandoned boats, rescuing equipment from skips, and finding new custodians for boats that might otherwise have been lost.

The truth is, not every project makes financial sense.

Sometimes there’s no profit in it at all.
But it still feels like the right thing to do.

That’s why we’ve set up Dorset Boat Recycling CIC (Community Interest Company).

Dorset Boat Recycling Services remains our commercial business, but Dorset Boat Recycling CIC gives us a way to focus on the community side of what we do — helping keep boats, sails, spars and equipment in use for longer, supporting local projects, and trying to prevent perfectly usable boating kit from ending up in landfill unnecessarily .

It will also allow us to apply for grants, funding opportunities and community support that aren’t available to a commercial business. Our hope is that this will help us do more for the local boating community — whether that’s tackling abandoned and unwanted boats, supporting sailing clubs and community groups, helping families who need a hand, or funding community projects that encourage education & reuse rather than disposal.

We’re not pretending we’re going to save every boat. Some really have reached the end of the road. But if a boat, sail or piece of equipment still has some life left in it, we’d like to give it the best chance possible.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. Whether you’ve trusted us with a boat, bought a project, donated equipment, shared a post, or simply encouraged us along the way, you’ve helped make this possible.

At heart, we’re still just a family who can’t quite walk past a neglected boat without wondering if it deserves another chance.

Now we’ve got a CIC and a bit more paperwork to prove it 😅

🚛⛵ Something exciting is happening…

For the past few months we’ve been quietly working on something behind the scenes.

It’s not a boat.

It’s not a trailer.

And it’s definitely not another project that’s followed us home 😅

But it is something we’re really proud of, and we think it could make a genuine difference to local boat owners, sailing clubs and the boating community.

We’ll share more on Thursday.

But until then…wrong answers only…👀

From neglected and sad-looking dinghies... to ready to hit the water again! ⛵

Earlier this week we collected these three boats with the aim of giving them a second chance.

The Laser 3000 and Topper Topaz didn't need much more than a good scrub, some elbow grease, a few cover repairs and new trailer tyres. The RS Tera is still waiting for some more substantial sail repairs at before she's ready for her next adventure.

Around 4 hours of cleaning, several more hours in the workshop stitching sails back together, and they're already looking like completely different boats.

This is exactly why we do what we do. Most boats don't need scrapping — they just need a bit of time, effort and someone willing to see the potential.

All three will be looking for new homes, both the topaz and 3000 have just been listed on eBay with a starting bid of £1 🏡⛵

Second Wind Sundays ⛵

Part 3 of Rapscallion’s story is now live.

Back in March, after months of sanding, painting, repairing, modifying and occasionally wondering what we’d got ourselves into, our £1 R19 finally went back where she belongs — on the water.

Since then she’s raced Tuesday nights, Thursday evenings, the single-handed series and Poole Regatta, proving that old boats still have plenty of life left in them.

This is the final chapter of a winter project that somehow turned into 500 hours of work, £3,000 in materials, and one of the most rewarding boats we’ve ever brought back.

If you’ve ever looked at an old boat and thought “she’s probably past it” — this one’s for you.

A recommendation from us at Dorset Boat Recycling Services ⛵

We often get asked who we'd recommend for trailer servicing and repairs locally, and after recently having our RIB trailer serviced, we're very happy to recommend PooleTowing.

Ian did a fantastic job, was great to deal with, and clearly knows trailers inside out. The service was thorough, reasonably priced, and turned around quickly – exactly what you need when the boating season is in full swing. They offer trailer servicing, repairs, parts and towing-related services across the Poole and Bournemouth area.

As boat owners ourselves, we know how easy it is to focus on the boat and forget about the trailer sitting underneath it. A well-maintained trailer can save a lot of headaches (and expensive recoveries) later on.

If your trailer has been sitting in a yard, launching in salt water every weekend, or hasn't had a proper service in a while, it's well worth giving Ian a call.

Thanks again for looking after ours – we'll definitely be back. 👍🚤

⛵ HELP US FIND DORSET’S FORGOTTEN BOATS! ⛵

We know they’re out there…

🚤 The project boat that’s been “getting done next summer” for the last 10 years
🌱 The dinghy disappearing into the garden hedge
⚓ The yacht nobody in the family wants after a bereavement
🛟 The pile of sails, trailers, outboards and boating kit taking up space
🏡 The boat that’s become an expensive garden ornament

At Dorset Boat Recycling Services, we help find new homes for boats that others have given up on. If they’re beyond saving, we’ll recycle them responsibly.

So here’s a challenge…

👇 TAG a friend who has:
• A boat they keep meaning to sort out
• A boat project that’s never going to happen
• A garage, garden or boatyard full of marine bits
• A boating headache they need help with

And if you’re one of those people… don’t worry, we don’t judge 😅

Please give this post a share too. Every share helps us reach another forgotten boat that might just get a second chance.

Bayliner F21 Bowrider – Wakeboard Tower – SBS Twin Axle Trailer

Looking for a versatile family sports boat that's ready for summer? This 2011 Bayliner F21 has been with the same owner since 2012 and has been lightly used, spending most of its life on fresh water on a lake in France.

Powered by a 4.3L MerCruiser sterndrive, she has plenty of power for watersports, cruising and family days afloat. The fitted wakeboard tower makes her ideal for towing wakeboards, skis, rings and other water toys.

🔹 2011 Bayliner F21
🔹 4.3L MerCruiser sterndrive
🔹 Wakeboard tower / tow frame fitted
🔹 Recently serviced with a clean bill of health
🔹 SBS twin axle trailer included
🔹 Primarily freshwater use from new
🔹 Ready for the season

The boat presents well for her age and has clearly been cared for. As expected for a 14-year-old boat there are a few minor cosmetic marks, but overall she is in very good condition.

The trailer is included with the sale and is fully functional, although the owner advises it would benefit from a service (which may be completed before sale).

The current owner is only selling because they have purchased another boat better suited to their current needs.

A great opportunity to buy a well-maintained sports boat that's ready to get straight on the water.

£15,500 and open to offers.
