Your MFD can display charts, AIS targets and vessel data...

So why are you still checking separate engine gauges? đź‘€

Many boats have reliable analogue engines with years of life left in them, but their engine data can't be displayed on a modern NMEA 2000 network without a little help.

The good news? You don't need to replace your engine.

Our latest article explains how the Actisense EMU-1 converts analogue engine signals into NMEA 2000 data, allowing key information like RPM, temperature and oil pressure to be viewed on compatible displays.

At Actisense, we're proud to support causes that make a meaningful difference in our local community.

That's why we've donated ÂŁ1,000 to the Do It For The Kids campaign by University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity.

The campaign aims to enhance the new Children's Unit in the BEACH Building at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, funding projects and equipment that go above and beyond NHS funding to help reduce anxiety, improve wellbeing, and create more welcoming environments for children, young people, and their families.

As a Dorset-based business, we're honoured to support an initiative that will have a lasting positive impact on young people across the region.

Intermittent dropouts. Missing devices. Random communication issues.

Many NMEA 2000 network problems aren't caused by faulty equipment. They're caused by a few overlooked installation fundamentals.

In our latest article, we break down the three key principles behind building a reliable, standards-compliant NMEA 2000 network:

âś” Choosing the right cable and connector types
âś” Understanding node and address limits
âś” Correct network termination and why it matters

We also explore the technical reasoning behind each requirement, from CAN bus timing constraints to voltage drop calculations and signal reflections.

Whether you're designing a new installation or troubleshooting an existing network, understanding these fundamentals can save hours of frustration later.

What are the 3 fundamentals? 👉

Building an NMEA 2000 network can be a daunting task, with a number of standards and specifications to follow. Follow these 3 fundamentals...

Modern vessels generate huge amounts of data - GPS, AIS, engines, autopilots, wind instruments, depth sounders - but distributing that data reliably across the vessel is where integration gets messy.

In our latest guide, we break down how to share NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 data over Ethernet to create cleaner, more scalable onboard networks.

Inside the guide, we cover:
- Why traditional serial connections create limitations onboard
- How NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 can be bridged onto Ethernet
- The role of TCP, UDP, and dedicated NMEA gateways
- Best practices for secure and reliable vessel network design
- When to use wired Ethernet vs Wi-Fi
