Launch day and sea trials for this lovely (and rare) Northshore Sabreline 395. A beautifully built boat, it's nevertheless fair to say she was ready for a bit of TLC. Following a cut and polish of the topsides, new name decals and some work beneath the waterline it was great to see her sparkle in the Spring sunshine.

Even better to see her performance afloat fully restored after a comprehensive engine cooling system overhaul - proven despite the somewhat blustery conditions in Plymouth Sound.

Remember, if it goes on a boat, the team at Mountbatten Boathouse can supply, install, service and repair it! As always, thanks due to the Plymouth Yacht Haven team for ensuring all went smoothly with the launch and time ashore.

With the summer getaway looming, a timely reminder to check your safety equipment. We've previously posted about some of our own frightening lifejacket inspection discoveries. If you ever need it, you'll definitely be glad you checked it! We can of course help with advice, spares and replacements if required.

The RNLI says it checked 803 lifejackets in the South West and found 523 of them were faulty.

Launch day for this fabulous classic Grand Banks motor yacht... Time had taken its toll on the original fuel tanks. Both main engines moved to facilitate access. Fuel safely removed and stored, old and corroded mild steel tanks cut out, new custom built stainless steel tanks installed. A variety of other works are now booked in. If you need marine engineering and refit services in Plymouth, we're the people to call - we work with all vessel types, with full yard services to 75 tonnes at our Plymouth Yacht Haven base.

What's happening inside your lifejacket? This was one of three brought into us for assessment recently. When shown the insides the owners quickly and sensibly decided to write them off. Out of interest we activated them prior to destruction and responsible disposal. Despite outwardly looking ok with covers on, all three failed to operate correctly and two failed to hold air. They would have been no use whatsoever to a casualty in the water.

If you don't feel confident to service a lifejacket yourself, please, please do as the (new) owners of these jackets did after purchasing a boat that came with them. Get them checked out, it's a decision that might just save a life...
