As well as being the base for our sister airline Isles of Scilly Skybus Limited, the Airport supports several other businesses. One of these is "Air Cornwall"- a local Flying School that set-up at the Airport about two and a half years ago. The Flying School is owned and run by experienced instructor, Gary Perry. We invited Gary to tell us a bit about "Air Cornwall"....
Hello to all, that support and follow Lands End Airport via social media. My name is Gary, and i am the proprietor of Air Cornwall, which has been based at the airport since March 2023. I carry out pilot training, to help people fulfill their dreams of becoming a fixed wing aircraft pilot, achieving the National Private Pilot License (NPPL). I also offer air experience flights/trial lessons, in the plane, which are normally gifted by relatives and friends, via a gift voucher. Come and see for yourselves the beauty of West Cornwall from the air, or even better, give someone special that flying gift. The airport is a perfect place to train, as it has beautiful tarmac and grass runways, full air traffic control, and is perched on the top of the cliffs above the stunning Gwynver and Sennen beaches. Although this is the main part of what i do for a living, and i'm happy to fly any time of the year that is flyable, i am also a Commercial helicopter pilot and fly, as and when needed, the legendary Bell 206 jetranger throughout the U.K. I have been a helicopter pilot for 20 years, and a fixed wing pilot for 15 years, instructing since 2016. This year i have trained four people who have passed the general skills test with our examiner, and have three students who are currently in training. The four people who have qualified this season are:
Nicola Wright ( Ltd company director)
Doug Stembridge ( Merchant Navy officer)
Tom James ( Compliance manager for a major local haulier)
Harry Randall, Refresher training, Requal ( Paramedic)
All have done really well, being focussed and committed to achieving their goal, so congratulations once again Captains.
You can visit my website; aircornwall.co.uk and/or my "Air Cornwall" page to see what we get up to, or to contact me directly.
Best wishes to all
Gary
