Job: Pontoon Builder
We all have a marine background and have taught ourselves to build ScaffFloat pontoons with no scaffold experience.
We are looking for someone with a strong marine background including qualifications. Comfortable driving all sorts of boats and generally working in and around the water.
Applications will be scored against the following:
Attitude & Culture: We are a very customer focused business. We always try and help find solutions and problem solving is a big part of what we do. This is a key part of our brand and so we weight the scoring for this very highly.
Safety: Keeping ourselves and our customers safe is a cornerstone of our service. Our customers trust us to take care of works afloat and whilst we work hard on the structure around safety (Risk Assessment, Method Statements, Policies, Training etc) the most important factor in safety is attitude. Accidents are generally predictable, they happen when things are rushed, not planned properly or people are tired. Having the right 'real world' attitude to safety is critical. Our mantra is Float Safe Home
Happy to graft: Building a standard ScaffFloat involves handballing 4-6t of scaffold tube, boards, clips and truss. It is often done in the wet and cold and against a deadline.
Tools: Must be happy on the tools.
Driving: This is a significant part of the job, so you must be comfortable towing large trailer. Our standard set up is a 3.5t flatbed Iveco with a 16ft trailer. We are also looking to expand our fleet to include an 18t (ish) wagon, with a crane, towing a big trailer full of floats - so applicants with appropriate licenses and understanding of driver hours and tachos will help with the scoring.
Marine: Experiance and qualifications driving boats, particularly commercial craft, small tugs etc.
Marine Civils / Contracting: This is an increasing part of what we do, experience with spuds, lifting equipment, plant, piling etc
Engineering & Electrics: Maintain and service outboards, winches, simple 12v wiring systems etc
Other: We will allow scoring number for additional miscellaneous skills that could add value to our offering.
This is a great opportunity to join a small team developing a really exciting product.
The job is 1% office based, the rest of the time you will be outside in the yard loading or doing maintenance, but most of the time out on the road mobbing or demobbing pontoons.
If you are interested please send your CV along with a cover email (no longer than 200 words) to [email protected] with a bullet list summary of your experience and qualifications and a paragraph about 1) why you want this job and 2) what value you can bring.
We look forward to hearing from you,
Toby and the ScaffFloat Team
