Casa Monti, Rome

A wonderful retreat in the heart of Rome, in the Monti district. Offering easy walkable access to the major attractions across the city.
Friendly, helpful staff who made our stay even more relaxing.
The hotel is situated on a quiet street, offering 36 rooms (including 10 suites) a restaurant and rooftop bar. On arrival we received a fab little book with things to do/places to visit which had some great recommendations.
A highly enjoyable stay, I would definitely recommend staying here on your next visit to Rome!

Tenuta di Murlo, Umbira

I had the pleasure of a group visit to Tenuta di Murlo in Umbria. An early departure from Heathrow to Rome saw us arrive in Italy late morning.

We were met and taken to Murlo which is roughly 2.5hrs away (there are seasonal flights to Perugia which is 20mins from the estate, or you can fly to Florence which is also around 2.5 hrs away).

Our home for the next few days is Castiglione Ugolino, this beautiful villa is the only one outside of the estate but close to their restaurant Il Caldaro

Set on a hilltop with beautiful views across the Umbrian countryside the villa was once a castle with church dating back to the 11th century. The villa houses 6 king size bedrooms with luxury marble bathrooms with an additional 4 king size bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms in the annexe which is located across the courtyard.

Both units offer relaxed seating, dining areas and kitchens. The courtyard has a stunning infinity pool, sunbeds and various seating areas for relaxing and alfresco meals.

The church with its frescoed walls is a lovely addition offering space to host gatherings and dinner parties.

After lunch in the villa we went over to the farmhouse where the Conceirge team are based. There is also a shop, cooking school and outdoor area for pizza (on set days) and drinks.

We were there to try out the cooking school., where we learnt how to make pasta. It was great fun and gave our arms a good workout as we had to hand roll the pasta! While the pasta was drying we enjoyed drinks in the tree house overlooking the valley beyond. We then returned to fill the pasta ready for cooking, we then got to eat it with some delicious vegetables from the kitchen garden.

The following morning it was time to explore the estate and see all the villas. All but one are situated on hills with stunning views of the Umbrian countryside. They offer various options depending on your group size.

I fell in love with the one villa set in the woodland at the bottom of the hill. Mollinela is designed as a love nest for 2, there is a lovely stream meandering by, a pool, sauna & whirlpool bath. Internally they have a well equipped kitchen (which is to be expected in all Murlo’s villas) 2 kingsize bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. It is so tranquil here, you can easily get lost for a few days of peace and quiet.

After lunch at Il Caldaro, the estates restaurant we met Giovanni and his truffle hunting dog Artü. We learnt about the different types of truffle and where they grow, we then set out on a walk to find them. Although Artü has retired he did a great job finding truffles!

Our visit concluded with a delicious dinner cooked in the villa by one of the estates chefs. It was a bountiful meal!

Our last morning takes us to Assisi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of St Francis (the patron saint of Italy). Well worth a visit.

A huge thank you to Carlotta and her wonderful team Tenuta di Murlo, Umbria, Italy and Julia from for inviting me.

We were delighted to attend the relaunch of the Zambia portfolio hosted by Her Excellency Ms Mazoka at the Zambian High Commission in London and her wonderful team.

The afternoon started with a delicous afternoon tea following by informative talks from the experts, including product specialists and the team from a luxury family owned lodge.

We then learnt about the amazing work by who transform poachers snare wire into beautiful jewellery, funding conservation and supporting rural livelihoods. Incredibly we were the lucky winner of a necklace from the collection 🙂

Would you stay again at Six Senses Douro Valley?

Definitely.
The hotel is a grand old-style building surrounded by gardens, woods and vineyards. It’s not easy to see where the property ends. The views of hills and the wide river bend are fantastic.
Staff quality and attitude is at the highest level we have experienced. Only one slip – a greeter at one of the restaurants said my wife looked tired. That is not what a lady wants to hear! The activity hut guys were super-friendly. The reception staff gave us a great welcome and answered all demands as the days progressed.
We came in early November. It rained a lot, but fantastic sunshine on the last day, with cool air. Being out of season meant lots of space, wide choice of places to sit, eat, etc.
We stayed in the Valley Rooms, which are in a separate building with its own garden and heated pool. The garden is beautifully laid out, with secluded areas, some alone on individual terrace areas, and a firepit and dining table, rocking chairs, dribbling water and flowers.
The Valley Rooms are arranged around a shared lounge area, in the centre of which is an impressive gas fire. The lounge area is stocked with ‘pre-breakfast’ and later ‘tea-time’ food – nuts, fruit, yoghurt, cakes. No-one goes hungry. We liked walking through the garden and up the (3 flights of) stairs to get to the main building - we needed a bit of exercise to offset our food indulgence.
The activity hut was close to our room, with all you need for biking and padel. We tried padel and loved it. I hired an electric bike and cycled on three successive days, going further each time. Fairly constant rain made this one for the hardy, but I enjoyed the challenge. On the last day, the bike broke down and I stopped at a bar, exchanging broken French with the owner until the hotel picked me and bike up (no charge).
As we sat in the sun on the last day, waiting for the airport transfer and thinking over our time here, the manager, Joel, passed our table, so we had a chat. Joel reported on a staff meeting where my cycling exploits (or foolhardiness) were mentioned. A legend in my own lunchtime!
Great choice, Louise.

Always lovely to receive feedback from clients 🙂 If you would like to expereince the delights of Six Senses Douro Valley let us know.

A relaxing few days exploring Folegandros, a small Greek island in the Cyclades. We stayed at Gundari a luxury resort set on a rugged cliff top. It inspires a calming back to nature approach. Chora (the capital) is a short drive away with a multitude of restaurants serving delicious Greek food. You can also walk up to the church of Panaghia for the best sunset views.
If you are looking for a restful week then Folegandros is the place for you.

Five days post SHA and was it worth it. As a guest of SHA I went to test out the Rebalance and Energise 4 day programme. The first day is spent being hooked up to high tech machines and meeting the lovely team of specialists. They take the data and tailor the programme based on the assessment results and my goals. Although this was the basic package the tests are pretty comprehensive for everyday health. There is a good selection of treatments included as listed below. I was dreading the Cryotherapy but it has definitely helped with my sore achilles! At the time of leaving I wouldn’t say I felt any better but certainly 5 days on I feel refreshed and light footed. Something has definitely worked 🙂
Ozone therapy
Acupuncture
Relax & energy infrared heat treatment
Thai massage
Cryotherapy
Yoga
2 x pt sessions
Hydrotherapy circuit
Healthy living academy
