โžก๏ธ Swipe to see a rhino de-horning in action! ๐Ÿฆ

This summer, our group had the unforgettable opportunity to take part in this crucial conservation effort, working alongside expert rangers and vets who are dedicated to protecting South Africaโ€™s endangered rhinos. Rhino de-horning might seem intense, but itโ€™s a powerful strategy used to deter poaching and save lives. Hereโ€™s how it works: rhinos are gently sedated, and only the outer, keratin-based part of their horn is trimmedโ€”similar to cutting your nails. The procedure is safe, painless, and carefully monitored, and because rhino horn grows back, de-horning needs to be repeated periodically.

Each year, hundreds of rhinos are lost to poaching due to the high black-market value of their horns. De-horning helps reduce their appeal to poachers and gives these incredible animals a fighting chance for survival in the wild. Thanks to conservation efforts like this, the chances of rhino populations rebounding are steadily improving. ๐Ÿ™Œ

This is just one of the many hands-on conservation experiences your kids could have when they travel to South Africa with Glo-Ed. From learning directly from local conservationists to making a meaningful impact, these experiences go beyond sightseeing and build a deep understanding of wildlife protection. ๐ŸŒโœจ โ€

Meeting the majestic creatures of South Africa with Glo-Ed this summer ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

Did you know that African elephants are highly social animals? They are known for forming tight-knit herds led by a matriarch (usually the oldest female). They also use their trunks for communication, greeting and comforting one another. ๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŒ
