Shipping routes are changing - and a different port means a different delivery plan.

Sea-Intelligence’s latest analysis shows how disruption in the Middle East is shifting shipping connections towards alternative ports.

In Q3 2026, shipping connectivity at Duqm in Oman and Khor Fakkan in the UAE was up 213% and 188% respectively compared with Q4 2025, before the Hormuz disruption.

Those figures show how significantly carriers have adapted their networks. But more connections at a port don’t guarantee a smooth delivery.

Handling, customs, available road transport and storage all need to fit around the revised route. Additional stages can also affect the total cost and delivery timing.

Renewed attacks on vessels in and around the Strait of Hormuz reinforce the importance of keeping alternative routes available, but the practical task is assessing which option works for the complete shipment.

At Allseas Global Logistics, we are delighted to sponsor Wythenshawe Town Women FC they start a new season.

Competing in the North West Women’s Regional League, the team enjoyed an impressive result last season, securing a 3rd place league finish and reaching the First Round of the FA Women’s FA Cup.

Following their transition from Manchester Laces to an independent club affiliated with Wythenshawe Town FC, the future looks incredibly bright for the club.

We are especially proud to see one of our own, Lauren Tutty, Group Finance Business Partner, leading the team both on and off the pitch. As captain for the past three seasons and a key midfielder, Lauren’s commitment, leadership and passion perfectly reflect the values we champion at Allseas.

Supporting local communities, grassroots sport is something we are passionate about and we wish Lauren and everyone at Wythenshawe Town Women FC every success for the season ahead.

Over the past few years, ocean freight has become more unpredictable. Congestion, conflict, changing carrier alliances, fluctuating rates and tighter capacity have made international shipping all the more difficult to navigate. Even as some of these pressures have eased, the complexity is still there.

It's changed what customers should expect from a freight forwarder. It's no longer enough to simply secure competitive rates. The real value lies in helping customers make the right decisions when circumstances change:

• Which carrier is likely to offer the most reliable service?
• What happens if a vessel is delayed?
• How will that affect customs clearance or onward transport?

These are questions that can only be answered through years of experience, strong relationships with carriers and a thorough understanding of how the wider supply chain fits together.

Road freight can look simple. But assuming it is can quickly cause problems.

There are more moving parts than you might think, which means more opportunity for things to fall down.

A collection is missed because the supplier is not ready. The wrong vehicle turns up for the cargo. Customs paperwork is incomplete. A border delay pushes the delivery outside its agreed slot.

None of these issues are especially unusual, or necessarily a deal-breaker, but together they can quickly disrupt the wider operation.

That’s why good road freight is about more than moving something from A to B. It depends on someone taking responsibility for the whole movement, understanding the detail early and staying close enough to the job to deal with changes before they become delays.

At Allseas, that means coordinating suppliers, selecting the right vehicle, managing customs and documentation, and keeping a close eye on timings throughout the journey.

When a shipment is urgent, your first instinct is probably to look for the next available flight.

That makes sense, but departure time is only one of many things you need to consider. A flight that leaves sooner can still create problems if the route involved a difficult connection, limited handling support, customs delays or an onward delivery that has not been planned properly.

The right solution really depends on the cargo, the deadline, and where its heading once it lands. Sometimes a direct service might be worth waiting a little longer for, or a different airport might offer a more reliable final leg.
All to say, a good air freight decisions are made by looking at the complete movement.
