The principal reason we change the clocks forward by one hour is to get the most out of the daylight as we hurtle towards Summer.
Nowadays, our devices do this for us.
So if you’re a nan with actual clocks in your house, don’t forget to put your clocks forward by one hour tonight after the Ten O’Clock News.
If you’re a young, happy-slapping hoodlum with TikTok and an ASBO, you’ll just be getting one hour less of sleep - so instead of getting up at midday, you’ll be getting up at 1 PM, and your ‘phone will have done it for you.
The German Government introduced the first clock-change in 1916 during the First World War as a means of saving energy; the longer the daylight lasted, the less electricity was required.
