A big thank you to the continued support from the staff at Nuneaton station and for their help in us gaining funding from the Community Rail Network. This will go a long way to help us maintain the flower beds this year .

Last night we made the most of the station being quiet due to engineering works on the main line.
We’ve hung 22 baskets ready for spring on the overpass connecting platforms.
These have got daffodil bulbs in which we’ve tried before and they appear to be ok with not having as much natural light up there.
Hope you like them.

Ever since we started doing the flower beds at the station the soil has always been a problem, full of rubble, litter and all sorts of mess.
Over the years we’ve tried to improve it, adding compost, top soil and soil conditioner. They always get a good mix of chicken manure pellets before planting and this year we think we’ve just about got it right.
Last few bags of soil conditioner collected and ready to be added. Planning for a bumper display this year.

Merry Christmas.

**WINTER WARMER GALA ANNOUNCEMENT**
Our third gala locomotive is now confirmed... 71480 "FRED"!!!

Built in 1945 by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns, 0-6-0ST Austerity locomotive 71480 was constructed for the War Department and delivered to the Longmoor Military Railway. Following it’s duties with the WD, ownership passed to Manchester Collieries and the locomotive worked at various pits. It was given the name "Fred" after a late superintendent of Manchester Collieries prior to the nationalisation of the industry, forming the National Coal Board (NCB).

After it’s industrial period of operation, the locomotive fortunately entered preservation in the late 1960’s, initially at The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. "Fred" last operated in the mid 1970’s and has since undergone an extensive restoration at Tyseley Locomotive Works and will join us as the 3rd engine for our Winter Warmer gala on 11th & 12th January 2025, alongside 6880 “Betton Grange” and 1369.

We hope to announce another visiting engine soon, after which, tickets will be made available for sale.

A massive thank you to the Station Gallery on Platform 1 for gifting us and National Garden centre voucher. We’ve used some of the voucher value to tidy and refresh the sleeper planter on platform 5, the display had been looking very tired and in need of refresh.
