This is an Image of the GN's High Level Station. The Road Bridge in the foreground Crosses London Road which was removed in the 1970's. The line eventually crosses Canal Street on its way to Vic Station via Weekday Cross Junction.

The final layout of the Nottingham Victoria Station.
Edward Parry the Engineer in charge had to go back to the drawing board several times before the final design. Victoria Station was originally going to be much smaller with the Mansfield Road tunnel going under the Nottingham Union Workhouse, situated on Woodborough Road.
When the Great Northern Railway came on board with plans for a Joint Central Station, the decision to extend the plans for the station northwards demolishing and relocating the Workhouse to Bagthorpe/ City Hospital. This delayed the construction of the new station and was one of the main reasons for the delay in opening the new joint terminus.

Nottingham Victoria Frontage Demolition — September 1967

A grim stage in the loss of Nottingham Victoria.

This view shows the frontage being demolished in September 1967, with much of the structure already stripped back to its roof timbers, chimneys and surviving masonry.

The station had been one of Nottingham’s great railway landmarks, but after closure the demolition moved quickly and very little of the original building survived.

CLARIFICATION: I shared this image simply because I found it interesting. At the time, it had no accreditation attached to it.

I’ve since been advised that the original photograph was taken by Brian Jeye in 1967, and that the image circulating online had subsequently been edited elsewhere.

As I’ve said in the pinned post on this page:

“If you recognise an image as your own, please don’t flame — just message me and I’ll happily add credit or remove it if needed.”

I’m always happy to correct attribution where it’s known, and I have no interest in passing someone else’s work off as my own.

In hindsight, perhaps I could have dug a little deeper into its origins before posting it. At the time, though, I was sitting in the ER for three hours, and sometimes life gets in the way of everything else.
