Whispering Reeds Boats Ltd Situated at the head of Hickling Broad we are ideally placed for you to enjoy a day on the water.

We are a small family owned and run boatyard on the Norfolk Broads. We have Holiday Cruisers, Houseboats, Sailing Boats, Motor Day Boats, Canoes and Rowing Boats.

Today’s job isn’t a boat but it has a boat on it 😅
One of our dry berth customers was having some wheel issues when launching, turns out the brake pads have decided they no longer want to be attached to the brake shoes they’d rather be attached to the drum 🙈
The shock absorber in the hitch has also seen better days, pushes in by hand activating the brakes which isn’t ideal trying to reverse!

Launched the lovely skylark today, she looked beautiful in the sun, varnish glistening, hull blindingly white!
Mast back up, paddled back to her mooring and covered up. Then the not so fun part, tidying up after all the scraping, sanding and masking tape 🙈

Another day, another coat of varnish! But this one was the final one, it was criminal to sand it this morning after how good it looked but that extra coat always makes a difference. It now has the bank holiday weekend to harden ready to go back in the water next week.
Other little things going on today, planning trailer servicing for a dry berth customer whose wheel keeps sticking in reverse.
A good catch up and chat about engine issues / servicing needs for a boat owner / former day boat hirer 😊
We are closed Monday but back at it Tuesday.

Nothing new today - just prep and varnish and more varnish , getting those coats on to give maximum uv protection and longevity and of course the lovely deep shine of freshly varnish wood ✨
Had a consultation with a customer of ours about varnishing his mast, trying to decide what colour/ finish he wants as we are going to be taking it back to bare wood so the options are wide open.

Happy Monday! First one of today was a full care package for one of our dry berth customers, uncovered, launched, tanks emptied and fresh fuel put into them, rudder on, fenders on, engine ran up. The owner can now turn up early in the morning and just get off on their adventure!
Another one of our dry berth customers launched their boat for a few days, really good to have a catch up with them.
Managed 2 coats of varnish today on the half decker, the joys of varnishing in warmer weather.

Also had this little sims speedboat get launched today, looks great fun with a 40hp 2 stroke outboard, idle speed should be enough for the broads 😅
