🎹We have seen an increase in moves with pianos recently.

We come across all sorts, some that are dusty and unused in the garage and others like this one in Exeter that are immaculate and played daily.

One thing is for sure though, they never get lighter to pick up and carry! Even getting them onto our specialist piano wheels can be hard enough. But once they are on our wheels we can safely transport it to the van and then to its new home.🚚

🎼We like to get the customer to play us a little tune so we know it is going to get used 😄

Well that was a fun adventure today. Delivered a van load of furniture and a piano to Windsor and then went and collected a van load of furniture for one of our customers next door to Twickenham stadium to bring back down to Devon.

One minute working under the direct flight path for Heathrow with planes just overhead every 45 seconds, to being next to the very impressive rugby stadium.

Nice early start and we managed to be back home before 5pm, so all in all a good day!

Saturday is the much needed 6th day of the working week at the moment.

Today saw us doing a 3 van removal from Teignmouth to Bishopsteignton. Luckily we started nice and early so were done by early afternoon, ready for a rest before a full week next week.

Big thanks to the team this week, it's been an intense week with lots of steps and long days, but they did great as always.

The pros and cons of having your removal company pack for you. 📦📦📦

At Empire Removals we have recently seen an increase in the number of customers that want us to pack for them in Devon. Below is a brief outline of the pros and cons of packing services.

✅Pros

1️⃣Time - Packing is a time-consuming task, from packing up kitchens to boxing books, kids toys and garages - it takes a lot of time. A removal company will pack everything in a day or two saving you weeks of packing.

2️⃣Convenience - Having movers pack for you means you can live as you are until the day before moving. This saves having boxes etc lying around the house for weeks.

3️⃣Protection - Movers are experts in packing items safely, wrapping china and fragile can avoid damage.

4️⃣Money saving - This will feature in pros and cons. Whilst a packing service may seem an additional cost to pay for, that cost could be saved in not having to buy packing materials, not having to take time off work and not breaking expensive items yourself by not packing correctly.

5️⃣Less time off work - We pack for a lot of customers and the majority let us in and then go to work and leave us to get on with it. They return from work to a fully packed up house and haven't used valuable annual leave to pack.

6️⃣More efficient for move day - If a mover packs for you they will likely use less boxes and have everything ready for the move day including loading boxes downstairs near the door etc making move day quicker and more efficient.

7️⃣Insurance benefits - Did you know that insurance companies limit cover when customers pack their own boxes? This isn't a removal company thing, it is industry-wide for removals insurance. Insurers favour removal companies packing given the extra experience and materials.

❗Cons

1️⃣Cost - As mentioned above, packing is an additional cost. You are paying for the movers time, expertise and materials to safely pack everything. This comes at a cost.

2️⃣Missing the chance to declutter - If you pack yourselves then you have the chance to go through everything in your house and clear out what you no longer need. Leaving everything until the day before for the movers makes this more difficult.

🚚As you can see the pros generally outweigh the cons, however obviously everyone is different and has different circumstances.

Well that was a hot day to be moving house! Definitely the hottest, hardest conditions I've had to deal with in nearly 10 years. 🥵

"Why are you doing that today? It's cooler at the end of the week" our customer's neighbour said to us earlier. Wish it was that simple but with house completions needing to be legally completed on time then we don't have much choice.

The one thing we can control though is preparation for a day like today. Putting the full team on a job rather than being understaffed and rushed, loading 50% the day before (although in this case yesterday was also baking!) and making sure there is plenty of time for breaks to get the fluids in - this is a proper hydration break not like the football ,⚽ 😄

The guys worked incredibly hard (even me if I say so myself!) and our customer certainly appreciated it which was the main thing. Doesn't help when you come across the biggest heaviest tree you've had to move for sometime! 😄

Time to sit with an ice pack on my head for the rest of tonight before we do it all again tomorrow 💪
