In the beginning 499 was still in service with Newcastle Busways, but was eventually withdrawn. We ran 499 without any major problems until 1994 when major engine troubles brought about the withdrawl of 499. The bus was still owned by Busways but unfortunately was scrapped. We were then given a Scania N113 "The Green Machine" number 927. This bus was also used daily by Busways but made available t
o the group to attend events throughout the uk. Next came a Bristol RE, TRY 118H, number 1802, this was also owned by Busways and was in Blue Bus Services livery which again attended various events around the area. Eventually as time moved on it was a lot more of a problem to obtain suitable vehicles from Busways so in 1996 the 499 Preservation group was disbanded. When we finished we wondered how to dispose of our funds, We were given the chance to but another bus 221 JVK a 1962 Leyland Atlantean. A lot of hard work went into the vehicle which was parked at Slatyford depot, we then received the news that we had to find a new home for 221, this proved impossible and she was sold by the company. So for the second time we lost our bus. In 2004 we were asked if we would like to take on another bus, this time a 1980 Leyland atlantean EJR 111W, and so began the Treble One Group!Treble one arrived with us in November 2004 straight out of service from Stagecoach Transit. Over the following two and a half years a dedicated few members worked very hard on Treble One to bring her back into the condition that you see her in today. In 2007 we completed our first season of rallies winning first in class at the Tyne Tees Rally! We also won the award in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
