Well my 2026 pre-season, warm weather training trek is over. I have made it to Cordoba, just as the rain has arrived. 400km in 16 days. Not a bad effort I suppose. The Camino Mozarabe wasn't my first choice of walk, but it has got miles into the legs for the summer ahead. Unfortunately far too many of those miles have involved road walking. Still, this is Andalucia, so the food has been excellent and the welcome from the locals warm and friendly. Better check out Cordoba!

This years pre season, warm weather training, personal development and marketing trek is once again in Andalucia. Priority is an easy emergency trip home. I have so far walked just over 200km from Almeria to Granada on the Camino Mozarabe. I am not a 'Pilgrim', just a lonely Yorkshirman in need of some exercise. After a really bad winter in Andalucia, the Camino offered a safer plan than the GR7 I had intended to walk. It has proved to be a good option as the flood damage is extensive. 200km still to do..... of to Cordoba next.

I have had an interesting few days back in Andalucia walking a section of the GR 249 between Carratraca and Casares over 5 days (130km). The weather has been mixed, the walking excellent, the villages interesting, the food outstanding. Unfortunately, I have been sh*te!! Full of cold (man flu?) and massively under performing. It has been a really tough week, certainly not the kind of week I have been looking forward to all summer. Heyho, back to work and my Flu Jab and Covid Jab booked for tomorrow, how ironic!!

Summer 2025. Trekking in Finland on the Kurhankierros Trail, just north of the Arctic Circle. All our family were able to make it. Thank you Will Chamberlain Jade Chamberlain Henry Chamberlain James Chamberlain for allowing us to continue to build memories together. We had a brilliant 4 day wilderness experience, averaging just over 20km per day with full expedition kit, wild camping, swimming in lakes and catching up on the gossip. A truely wonderful family time. Hot too! A highly recommended experience, we had a great time. The adventure continues....

March has been super busy. It began out in Andalucia with the last few days of my Gran Senda de Malaga trek. I went straight into an Outdoor First Aid course for teachers, instructors and outdoor professionals. Another full course (24 candidates!). I have finished my winter climbing wall work now. GCSE PE climbing programmes have been very popular with c. 300 students assessed. John Spence School (North Shields); Venerable Bede Academy (Sunderland); St John's RCHS (Bishop Auckland) provided outstanding students this month. I was very happy to deliver an Indoor Climbing Assistant course for the Combined Cadet Corps. As usual I have been busy with Technical Expert work, delivering staff training for Excelsior Academy (Newcastle) and Whitley Bay Scouts. My annual trip down to Irlam to work with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service thankfully coincided with fine weather. The DofE season has started for us with a Bronze Training Expedition on Hadrians Wall for Dame Allan's Schools. Easter is super busy, and the summer fully booked. Let's hope this fine weather continues. Happy days!!

Well my warm weather training trek is coming to an end. Over the last 16 days i have completed c. 380km of the GR 249, Gran Sender de Malaga, contiuing from week 1 through Alfarnate, Villanueva del Rosario, Archidona, Villanueva de Algaidas, Alameda, Fuente de Piedra, Campillos, and finishing at El Chorro. It has been tough, boring, beautiful, frustrating, meaningful. It has certainly got some miles in the legs for this summer's work schedule. Heading back a week early as I am needed at home. Looking forward to seeing Caroline, and getting back to work. Until the next trip...Hasta luego!

I am out in Spain doing my annual warm weather pre season training and staff development trek. This year it's the GR 249, Gran Senda de Malaga. I started on the 13th February 2 hours after landing in Malaga and have so far completed c.160km. I spent 4 days heading along the coast to Nerja and have then come inland, into the olive groves and towards the mountains via Frigiliana, Competa, Canillas de Acietuna and Periana. Feet were battered on the coast by the concrete, tarmac and tiles. First blisters in over 45 years. Tough week. Feeling strong now, so into the mountains. Only 400km to go!!

What a fantastic few month I have had. Super busy and tbh I am in need of a break. December, January and early February have been hectic. Special mention to Sunderland Wall and Simonside Outdoor Adventure for hosting so much of my work, and to Dizzy Peverley for putting up with working with me on 14x GCSE PE climbing programmes. We have worked with some outstanding young people from St Cuthbert RCHS (Newcastle); St Johns (Bishop Auckland); St Thomas More (North Shields); Jesmond Park Academy (Newcastle); Kings Priory (Tynemouth); Newcastle High School for Girls; Sacred Heart (Newcastle); St Bede's (Durham); Venerable Bede (Sunderland). Great work!
I have delivered Site Specific training and assessment courses for staff from: Emily Wilding Davison School (Ponteland); Moorbridge School (Shiremoor); Wolsingham School (Weardale); Sunderland Wall and Crosby Hall Educational Trust (Liverpool). Climb safely guys.
I have been delighted to help 12x candidates successfully complete my 3x Climbing Wall Instructor assessment courses. Well done everyone.
Each month we have delivered an Outdoor First Aid course, ensuring c. 60 teachers, instructors, Forest School leaders are suitably equipped to deal with a wide range of potential scenarios.
I have even managed to find time for a trip to the Peak District for some CPD with Mountain Training.
It has been a busy few months, but I continue to love what I do. I am a very lucky man. Time for a break. Off to Spain for a rest.

Great idea to build a home board in the garage over the Christmas holiday before William Chamberlain was born in the January of 1995. Didn't however anticipate how little time it would take him to get stronger than me...heyho!!

November is usually a quieter month for ATNE as we often fly out to Spain to climb or walk. This year we took a week off, but we're restricted with travelling due to family commitments. Still managed plenty of work though: Site Specific climbing wall training and re assessment for The Pods, Scunthorpe, Petchey Academy, Hackney and Kenton School, Newcastle. Another CWI training course and a CWI assessment course added interest. Our monthly Outdoor and Forest Scool First Aid course adds variety and a chance to catch up with familiar faces. At this time of year I am always busy with GCSE PE climbing programmes. Jesmond Park Academy (×2 groups); King's Priory, Tynemouth; St John's, Spennymoor and St Thomas More, North Shields students have all been highly entertaining, enthusiastic and highly committed to their own progress. Happy days! Oh, nearly forgot...had a birthday too and a mini break in Otterburn.
