s, social activities, medical appointment or visiting family and friends. Our friendly volunteer drivers are there to offer support and extra care to their passengers - it's journey but much more! Our drivers are provided with advice and training on how to assist passengers into and out of a car and how to appropriately support those passengers with additional needs.

Could you spare a few hours a week to help your community?

Do you live in Blaenau Gwent and own your own car? If you have a little time to spare, we’d love you to join us as a Volunteer Driver! 💙

We’re looking for more volunteer drivers to help local people get to the places they need to go.

- Full training provided
- Travel expenses paid
- No weekly commitment – volunteer when you can!

We’re looking for volunteer drivers who may be able to help us on Fridays in Caldicot.

We currently have more residents needing transport on Fridays than we have drivers available to help them. We’d love to hear from anyone who might be able to spare some time to support local residents with their transport needs.

Even if you can only help occasionally, your support could make a real difference.

Introducing another one of our fabulous Volunteer Drivers, Steve.

Steve began volunteering for Bridges back in 2022 while still working full time, and since retiring in 2024 has dedicated even more of his time to helping others. Steve has completed over 240 Car Scheme journeys, driving more than 4,000 miles to help people access healthcare, stay connected with family and friends and remain independent.

Steve also volunteers his time for Bridges being a Befriender and Tri-shaw Pilot. His kindness and commitment are reflected in the words of one passenger who described Steve as "so much more than a driver" and said that their journeys has grown into a wonderful friendship.

At the Volunteering for Wellbeing Summer Gathering, Steve received an award for being one of our Hidden Hero's. Thank you Steve for everything you do for us at the Car Scheme, and the Bridges Centre 💛

At our summer event, we were delighted to award 6 of our volunteers from across the county, a special Room to Reward award for their remarkable contribution to volunteering.

Our first is Liz, a wonderful woman who is a volunteer befriender, driver, volunteers at the local park run, the local theatre and many other community events, always with a huge smile and bags of warmth and compassion for everyone she meets.

Thanks to Room to Reward, Liz can now enjoy a free break away for a couple of days as a small thankyou for her huge contribution to improving the lives of people in Monmouthshire.

Here is Liz with our lovely befriending co-ordinator Meg.

Introducing, Richard, one of our wonderful Volunteer Drivers 🚗

Richard completed his first Car Scheme journey on 15th December 2022 and has since completed an incredible 265 journeys across Monmouthshire. Covering over 4335 miles to help passengers attend vital appointments and stay connected to the community.

Richard goes far beyond being a volunteer driver, building genuine relationships with those he supports, particularly his Mardy Park Ladies. His commitment extends to the Bridges Centre Cycling Without Age Monmouthshire project as a Trishaw Pilot as well as volunteering for the Welsh Ambulance Service.

On Friday, at the Volunteering for Wellbeing Summer Gathering, Richard received an award for being one of our Hidden Hero's. Thank you Richard, for everything you do for us at the Car Scheme, and the Bridges Centre 💛

Without Bridges Community Car Scheme, Shirley would struggle to get out and about and attend her regular groups where she catches up with friends and stays connected to her community.
