Electron Aviation's 'sky-hailing service' is billed to provide an 'electrifying journey'. Called the 'Electron 5', the air taxi is designed to transport four passengers over 500km on a single charge.

Is ELECTRON aviation real?

That’s the question or similar to what our partner Groningen Airport Eelde (GRQ) NXT Airport was asked in late 2021 by David Bakels, a journalist working for the Dutch magazine Piloot en Vliegtuig. The answer to that question was a resounding YES and it resulted in an interview with Piloot en Vliegtuig of Josef Mouris, our CEO, which was published in the January edition, see below.

For non-Dutch speakers, here are the key points.
Point 1: ELECTRON aviation was founded because of the need to remove emissions from aviation this decade.
Point 2: A focus on using today's available batteries and superior aerodynamics.
Point 3: The company is already flying with a 2 seater proof of concept aircraft capable of 300 km flights.

“Piloot en vliegtuig” (Pilot and Airplane) magazine is the largest and most complete aviation magazine in the Benelux. The magazine is aimed not only at professionals in the aviation sector, from pilots (in training) to technicians, but also at all lovers of flying and airplanes!

To deliver “zero emission flying”, ELECTRON aviation will need access to renewable energy. Any idea where we might get that from?

The answer is relatively simple: Your local airport.

Airports have sufficient vacant space for solar panels. Like at our launch hub Groningen Airport Eelde (GRQ), where GroenLeven installed 63,000+ solar panels airside. This 22 MW solar farm generates around 18.7 GWh of clean electricity, each year. It would only take 20% or 3.9 GWh of that energy produced locally to fly 240,000 passengers to destinations like , , , , and . That’s moving more passengers than the annual peak at Groningen Airport Eelde, yet all with .

The next golden age in aviation includes small aircraft, regional airports, and lots of clean energy from solar power. Hence, it takes investors, solar plant operators, regional airports, and companies like ELECTRON aviation to make this happen. If you want to be part of this, get in touch!

In 2026 it will happen: passengers can take an air taxi to and from Dutch Groningen Eelde airport. ELECTRON aviation will build air taxis that can seat four passengers.

Electron Aviation is delighted to announce we will be joining Robert Llewellyn's Fully Charged OUTSIDE show held over three days at Farnborough International.

Co-Founder Josef Mouris will be a part of "When will Electric Flight come in to land?" panel hosted by Robert Llewellyn at 4pm on 4th September.

Although the event is largely centred around 's, there is definitely a place for and particularly the regional travel solution we are working on that will included a door to door service. More on that at the event.
