No trains again this Sunday 14th June, but there will be next Sunday for Fathers Day with Dads travelling free with fare paying children! This week however, you are welcome to come and look round and have a chat with the volunteers.
The station shop will be open and you can browse the range of gifts, toys, greeting cards and railway merchandise. The Emporium will also be open where you will find a wide range of railway books and model railway items.
Whilst visiting, don’t forget the RMB buffet, where you can enjoy a range of drinks and light refreshments.

The trains are not running this Sunday 7th June, but the station is open. You are welcome to come and look round and have a chat with the volunteers.

June is here, bringing a quieter month at the railway. Having had two big events in May, June sees just one running day for Fathers Day on June 21st. Fathers travel free if accompanied by fare paying children.
The other event is the Diesel Driver Experience on Saturday 13th June. This is your chance to drive our 08 shunter. There are still a couple of places available, but you do need to book in advance.

The station, shop, Emporium and RMB buffet are open every Sunday throughout June, even when the trains are not running.

The main focus today for the volunteers was the BG (braked gangway) coach. Inside the coach, two members of the team were busy with the floor, getting about 2/3rds done. Outside the rain held off, and four more volunteers sanded down the paintwork before applying a new coat of paint.

A massive Thank You to all the volunteers at the Somerset & Dorset Railway in Midsomer Norton. Without them, none of our many achievements would happen, as everyone at the railway is a volunteer!

There are a lot of things going on at the railway at the moment. The last phase of the upgrade of the BG (braked gangway) coach is under way, and it will soon become the new home of the Emporium.
Work on the Bar Car is also ongoing with it due to replace the RMB as the home of our catering team. The Wells Hut is due to get some tlc shortly.

These are just a few of the projects that are in addition to the ongoing maintenance of the site- there is always something that needs doing.

If you would like to join our team, then we have something for you. Apart from train crews and station staff, there are also opportunities to help with maintenance and restoration of the railway. You don’t even have to be a train fan, as there are plenty of opportunities in the retail and catering teams, and also the gardening team.

Wickham Wednesday is back tomorrow.

Join us from 10.30 for Wickham Trolley rides along the length of the line. The 20 minute return journey on the restored trolley is a popular attraction so booking is advised as the trolley only seats six passengers. We regret we can’t carry wheelchairs due to the nature of the vehicle.

The RMB buffet will be open for ice creams and refreshments.

Bank Holiday Sunday saw something very different for the railway in Midsomer Norton as we welcomed the baby dinosaurs from Rentadinosaur.

The baby dinos travelled on the train, getting up to all sorts of mischief, but the children loved it. Once back at the station, everyone had the chance to find out more about the dinosaurs at their show. It was amazing how much some of the children already knew.

During the show several children had the chance to help train the dinosaurs- a dangerous occupation but luckily they all survived.

A great, fun day in the sunshine, and we hope that everyone who came along had a good day.
