The team have just finished day 4 and what a journey it's been so far for our Chairman Gary Dawson and Deputy Chairman John Young along the Great Wall of China.

It's certainly not been a case of putting one foot in front of the other. The challenge has involved hours of climbing, scrambling over rocks and navigating remote sections of the Wall, with some routes feeling more suited to goats than people, as Gary put it!

Along the way, the team has taken in incredible scenery, passed historic watchtowers and explored parts of the Wall that have been left largely untouched for years.

Sending our best wishes to everyone taking part as they keep pushing on to the finish line in support of Daisy Chain.

Last week we held our first ever AVD Run Club and welcomed a fantastic morning of networking, fresh air and plenty of conversation around the Port of Middlesbrough, topped off with some well-earned bacon sandwiches.

It was brilliant to welcome both familiar faces and new connections, including some who spotted the event on LinkedIn and decided to come along.

And they’re off!​

After months of training, preparation and fundraising, AV Dawson Chairman Gary Dawson and Deputy Chairman John Young have officially set off on their incredible challenge to walk 50km along the Great Wall of China in support of Teesside autism and neurodiversity charity, Chain.
​
Joining 11 fellow Teesside business leaders, Gary and John will take on the once-in-a-lifetime trek to help raise vital funds for a charity that provides life-changing support to autistic and neurodivergent individuals and their families across the region.​
​
The challenge has been months in the making, with plenty of early mornings, long walks and dedicated fundraising efforts along the way. Now, the training is complete, the fundraising continues and it's time to put all that hard work into action.​
​
Everyone at AV Dawson wishes Gary, John and the rest of the team the very best of luck as they take on this remarkable challenge. We're incredibly proud to support their efforts and help raise awareness and funds for such an important cause.​

Direct rail access, climate-controlled storage and sustainability-focused design. All in one facility.

AV Dawson's award-winning Automotive Metals Store is one of the most advanced warehousing facilities in the Tees Valley.

Located at the of Middlesbrough, the 102,000 sq ft facility provides secure, weatherproof storage for steel and metal products destined for customers across the UK and beyond.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the warehouse features ground source heating, solar panels, rainwater harvesting and climate-controlled conditions, helping to protect product quality while reducing environmental impact.

Its direct rail connection allows cargo to be unloaded, stored and distributed without exposure to the elements, supporting more efficient operations and lower-carbon freight movements. Combined with four overhead cranes and seamless road and rail access, the facility is built to keep cargo moving safely, efficiently and reliably.

Today marks a special moment in AV Dawson's history.

For the first time, two members of the fourth generation of the Dawson family, Chairman Gary Dawson's children, Rose and Freddie, are gaining experience within the business.

As a proud third-generation family business, family has always been at the heart of everything we do. It's one of our four core values and continues to shape the culture, relationships and long-term approach that have defined AV Dawson for generations.

From our humble beginnings with Arthur Vernon and his horse, Dina, to the business we are today, we've remained committed to supporting our people, customers and communities across the Tees Valley.
