Not long to go!

Next month, AV Dawson's Chairman, Gary Dawson and his son Freddie, will be taking on an incredible challenge. The pair will be driving all the way from Middlesbrough to Lake Como to raise money for Teesside Hospice.

The hospice is a charity that plays a vital role in our local community, providing specialist care, dignity and comfort to people living with terminal illness, as well as much-needed support for their families during incredibly difficult times. It’s a cause that is especially close to our hearts as a business, with Teesside Hospice located in the very community where AV Dawson was founded.

As a family-run organisation, with ‘family’ at the core of our values, supporting charities that make a real difference to our region is hugely important to us.

Gary and Freddie will be travelling for around 10 hours a day, with the aim of completing the journey in just six days, all while raising as much as possible for this fantastic cause.

This weekend, we’re proudly behind the Boro as they make their way to Wembley. Our loco on Riverside Park has been given a bit of a makeover in their honour.

It was fantastic to see our Group Managing Director, Charlie Nettle, take part in the Tees Business Panel, where the discussion centred on 'The Power of Teesside Together' and why collaboration and community spirit continue to give forward-thinking businesses a real competitive edge.

Joining Charlie on the panel were Grant Glendinning from Education Training Collective Duffield of Muckle LLP and Anthony Fiske from Eastgate Engineering, each bringing their own perspective on how partnership working is driving growth across the region.

The conversation reflected on the strength of Teesside’s business community, where companies support and champion one another. From sharing expertise and creating opportunities, to investing in local talent and infrastructure, the panel highlighted how collective effort is helping businesses not just adapt but thrive.

AV Dawson’s Chairman, Gary Dawson, and Deputy Chairman, John Young, have officially kicked off their training for the Great Wall of China Trek in support of Daisy Chain charity.

The duo recently completed an 8-mile walk around Shildon, the home of pioneering rail engineer Timothy Hackworth, who played a key role in extending the railway line into Middlesbrough.

As part of their preparation for the challenge ahead in October, Gary and John are now setting their sights on walking the full 26-mile route of the historic Stockton & Darlington railway.

It was fantastic to take part in the Tees Heritage Walk for the third consecutive year.

AVD colleagues and their family members and furry friends took part in the walk ran by the Erimus Rotary Club and Middlesbrough College.

The walk gave colleagues the opportunity to learn more of the River Tees' industrial heritage and the chance to raise money for Chain.

It’s back after a year’s break!

The AVD Cycle Challenge has returned as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Each year, colleagues across the business take part in physical activities to help raise awareness and funds for mental health. The Cycle Challenge has long been a firm favourite, encouraging a healthy lifestyle and a healthy mind.

The cyclists could choose however long they wanted to cycle for from 5-20 minute stints.

With this year’s theme focusing on ‘Action’, we’re encouraging everyone to take part in a way that works for them. Whether that’s spending 10 minutes on the bike or taking simple steps to support their own mental wellbeing.
