I’ve done a lot of research over the years about our history and can answer most questions, but one thing that has always bugged me is this timing clock..

I often wonder who came up with 7 minutes?

I imagine in my head people sat talking about how long is long enough and during that discussion, someone came up with 7 minutes and that was agreed but why ? 🤣🤣🤣

It is such a random number !!!

So I thought if there is any ex staff who may have worked the boats and may have been aware of any discussions or know any story behind it can you tell me?

It’s just one of those things I need the answer to!

Anyone?

It’s been a lovely day driving the train today 🥰

The highlight of my day was a visit from an elderly gentleman, who stood quietly for a while just on his own, just watching.. he then came and had a trip on the train which he described as a ‘nostalgia ride’ for him.

He has been on the train many years ago, when things like that were a real treat. Just before he left we had a chat about the history and how one of our old locos is at Butterley Museum which he now intends to visit.

As he left he said the train still sounded on the track just as he remembered it and he felt a bit teary 😢

THAT is why I love our little business, it’s not posh and sparkly, it’s battered and bruised, its well used and well loved, and its the memories its created for so many people ❤️

As I drove home thinking about him, I admit I also felt a bit teary, bless him 🥰

We can’t quite believe the school holidays are over!!

As always we like to end the holidays with a big thank you to all of you who included us in your visit to Matlock during the holidays.

This has been a year we’ve really enjoyed 🥰

We now revert back to weekends only and will try and keep going as long as we can. The leaves are already starting to fall which causes a problem for the boats so we will update here when we decide to end the season.

My Little David story book has sold incredibly well this year, it beat last year so thanks to all those who have purchased one

And lastly, shout out to our amazing staff, who have worked with us this summer on some very warm and busy days, we couldn’t do it without them so thanks guys 💪💪💪

Whilst we love being busy, we also love when it’s time to drop back to weekends so we can regroup our family after what feels like weeks of passing each other at the door ❤️

It’s not very often I drive the train but I did today and was visited a lot by this little Robin 🥰 it was never far away and came closest when I was sat alone ❤️ it fair made my day together with a lovely set of well behaved children throughout the day 😊

Good morning ☺️ the weather is looking difficult to predict today but there is a chance of on and off showers during our operating time this afternoon - so we have decided not to open today

We’ve had a fantastic half term and just wanted to thank all of you for including us in your visit to Matlock 🥰

We’ve had lots of laughs and chat and even had two separate people bring us ice cream on the days when the heat was getting overwhelming ! So thank you 🤩

Hopefully we will see you next weekend

Good morning 😊

Am I seeing right?

Looks like we are in for a rather fabulous few days 💪

We will be open from 10.30-4.30pm from Saturday and every day right through the half term provided the pesky rain leaves us alone 🤞

£6.50 for a boat for 3 people
£1.50 for the train 🚂

The splash pad will be open, plenty of places to eat or bring a picnic.

Hope you can include Matlock in you’re plans and pay us a visit, looking forward to some sunny days down here to welcome visitors old and new 🥰

Sorry folks, with the potential of on and off rain all day we will remain closed today… thanks to those that kept us busy yesterday 😊 Tomorrow is looking dry so hopefully we will be open for the bank holiday Monday 🤞
